Today we begin yet another journey. For the last 2.5 years we traveled through the Gospels in chronological order. Today we begin with this question? Who is God? Who is Yahweh? If I were to ask this question on east Monteque , I would no doubt get a variety of answers and opinions. However, what others say about God is not nearly as important as what you would say about him. If I asked you right now Who is Our God? What would you say. Do you feel like you know him well enough to describe him much like a person can easily describes their father or close friend? Or would you struggle to describe to others who He is and what He is like? To Answer the question of “Who is God?” We start right from the beginning with creation.
Ex- Nihilo (nee he low) - Out of nothing.
Nothing displays God’s power quite like creation. It is one thing to be inspired to create something from items that already exist. It is another thing entirely to be be inspired not by external stimuli but by internal ideas only.
It is in this way that Yahweh God creates everything in the world. Not only was the world created by the sheer creativeness of God but also all of the elements he used to create were in His Mind. Every detail was His design. from a tree sprouting and growing to the way it’s leaves react to the wind. Every detail existed in the mind of God.
We have literally spent thousands of years studying the design of the world around us, yet there is still infinitely more to discover. This shows us the complexity and power of God.
We have in front of us one of the most detailed passages in scripture. We see that God took 6 days to create the physical world and everything on it. You say Pastor Brett you really believe that God created everything in six days? Yes, I do. For two reasons, 1. God is all powerful 2. Every other narrative in scripture suggests that God is intimately involved with His creation. So the two systems that are set before us today are not just an issue of time. It is a issue of intimacy.
One system, evolution, suggest that God created a long evolutionary process . This evolutionary process then created all things that exist today. The second is God created everything by his own voice, that he was intimately involved in every part. One idea has God’s fingerprint on a process, The other suggest that God has left his fingerprint on me and one you and on every part of His creation. It is a question of How intimately is God involved in this world. The rest of scripture shows us a God that wants to be known. A God that loves deeply His people. A God that intervened regularly into the affairs of men, so that he might be known as a God who visits his creation, who loves his people, who cares about every detail of our lives. So no it is not hard for me to believe that God created everything in six days by the decrees of his mouth.
I am going to do what I don’t normally do. I am going to tell you the main point of today’s sermon right from the beginning. I want you to be blown away by the awesomeness of God.
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
4 God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.
Did you know that Light exists not because their is a source, but rather because God created it. In fact, at this point in the creation account their is no source of light other than God’s degree. As crazy as this sounds science actually verify’s this very thing.
Listen to this exert from the article written in 2020 entitled “Scientists Discover Outer Space Isn't Pitch-Black After All” from NPR about pictures that were taken in heavens
"The images were all of what you just simply call blank sky. There's a sprinkling of faint stars, there's a sprinkling of faint galaxies, but it looks random," Lauer says. "What you want is a place that doesn't have many bright stars in the images or bright stars even outside the field that can scatter light back into the camera."

Then they processed these images to remove all known sources of visible light. Once they'd subtracted out the light from stars, plus scattered light from the Milky Way and any stray light that might be a result of camera quirks, they were left with light coming in from beyond our own galaxy.

They then went a step further still, subtracting out light that they could attribute to all the galaxies thought to be out there. And it turns out, once that was done, there was still plenty of unexplained light.

In fact, the amount of light coming from mysterious sources was about equal to all the light coming in from the known galaxies, says Marc Postman, an astronomer with the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore. So maybe there are unrecognized galaxies out there, he says, "or some other source of light that we don't yet know what it is."

Scripture tells us that God separated light from the darkness.
As we read this next part of the creation account, I want you to visualize that in each category of creation every form, every texture, color, shape and sound came straight from the mind of Yahweh God. Every atom, cell, and organ, every reproductive process from seeds to procreation all came from the mind of God. Every mammal, reptile, invertebrate, fish, bird and insect, came from the mind of God. All that it took for these ideas to burst from conceptual into reality was a degree uttered by His voice. Before we do this I want you to keep in the back of your mind this
this excerpt from Scientific American and article entitled, “The Hippies Were Right: It’s all about Vibrations, Man!”
“All things in our universe are constantly in motion, vibrating. Even objects that appear to be stationary are in fact vibrating, oscillating, resonating, at various frequencies. Resonance is a type of motion, characterized by oscillation between two states. And ultimately all matter is just vibrations of various underlying fields.”

What is sound? audible vibration. The bible actually tells us where these vibrations originated. The very voice of God, himself. Doesn’t that just give you chills down your spine. All of creation resonates from and with God’s voice! We exist by the very substance of God’s voice. Visualize this as we read together the next passage.
6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water.”
7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above the expanse. And it was so.
8 God called the expanse “sky.” Evening came and then morning: the second day.
9 Then God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.
10 God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of the water he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the earth produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.” And it was so.
12 The earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
13 Evening came and then morning: the third day.
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night. They will serve as signs for seasons and for days and years.
15 They will be lights in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth.” And it was so.
16 God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule over the day and the lesser light to rule over the night—as well as the stars.
17 God placed them in the expanse of the sky to provide light on the earth,
18 to rule the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 Evening came and then morning: the fourth day.
20 Then God said, “Let the water swarm with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.”
21 So God created the large sea-creatures and every living creature that moves and swarms in the water, according to their kinds. He also created every winged creature according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 God blessed them: “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the waters of the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”
23 Evening came and then morning: the fifth day.
24 Then God said, “Let the earth produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that crawl, and the wildlife of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.
25 So God made the wildlife of the earth according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that crawl on the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.”
A Couple of Implications
I. Creation Displays His Attributes, Power, and Glory(God is not hidden).
I. Creation Displays His Attributes, Power, and Glory(God is not hidden).
It in interesting that the first time we are introduced to the God of the bible that He is not presented with a list of attributes or a description but rather by This narrative of creation. Yet from this narrative we can clearly see the attributes of God. We have a God that has chosen to be known.
1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands.
19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them.
20 For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse.
II. God has authority overall creation.
II. God has authority overall creation.
9 “Woe to the one who argues with his Maker— one clay pot among many. Does clay say to the one forming it, ‘What are you making?’ Or does your work say, ‘He has no hands’?
The struggles that we see today in our culture is really a question of authority. No one can tell me what to do, or Who or what I am. I am my own maker, I decide what is right for me. But when we recognize the Yahweh, when we recognize that everything that was made was created by an act of God’s will. Then no one can say, Who can tell me what I am or what I should do. God has authority over us because he has created us.
III. God created everything for His own Joy.
III. God created everything for His own Joy.
31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works.
Why is this so important to understand? Are you part of God’s creation? This means that God takes pleasure in you. Because we who are in Christ are keenly aware of our own sin, failures, flaws and imperfections, we often forget the purpose of why we exist in the first place. We exist because it brought God pleasure and Joy.
In a world that is desperate to find love and acceptance. God from creation has said I created you. You are mine and I take pleasure in you. This is not to say that God overlooks or ignores our sin. In fact, we know that not to be the case because he sent The Christ, Jesus to die to take our punishment for it. But when we understand that God takes pleasure in us because we are his, does this not fill you with Joy and peace? You see this is what it is all about. When we realize the goodness of God and we realize that we bring him joy not because of what we do but because he created us that should cause us to want to fulfill our purpose in Him. Does this not cause you to want to live according to God’s design? The more you realize the Glory of God on display in His design, you see the glory of God displayed in you. You see God’s joy over you. This will cause joy in you. When you walk in obedience(by his design) it is when you will feel most complete and whole.
To borrow from the west minister Catechism
What is the chief end of man?
What is the chief end of man?
Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
How do we enjoy God forever? By fulfilling our purpose in Him.
Church family, It is only possible for me to give you but a glimpse of the power and majesty of God. But if you caught even a glimpse of who He is today, you should leave here with Joy because The all-powerful God of all creation, wants you! We are not saved in Christ because we are good, or do Good. Those who trust in His work are saved because God is Good and it pleased God to rescue you from death and sin.
8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—
9 not from works, so that no one can boast.
Will you not choose Joy today? Will you not choose to submit to the purposes of God, glory and Joy. It brings God great Joy to rescue all those who by faith will turn from their sin and trust in the Him. This is your purpose to bring glory to God and it will bring you joy.
