Life After College

1. Be intentional about your location. (Mark 16:15)

Many students who were super on fire for God during their college years end up fizzling out after graduation because they picked where they will live based on a nice job offer.

Training

“Where can I go to continue to get the best training to keep growing in my walk with Christ and personal ministry?”

Keep fueling the flame. Vision leaks, so you need to keep fueling it.

Learn what you don’t know. College is just a foundation, there is more you will need. (ex. FPU).

Impact

“Where can I go to make the greatest impact for the kingdom of God?”

“In his excellent book Spiritual Multiplication in The Real World, Dr. Bob McNabb did a research thesis on graduates from disciple-making college ministries and their effectiveness at making disciples in the “real world” after college. He was trying to get to the bottom of why so many who are fruitful disciple-makers in college end up not making disciples after college. His conclusion was that the most important factor for someone multiplying after college was whether or not they were a part of a disciple-making team.”

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

Why not?

team up with some of your closest co-laborers

Move to a city together where there is a good church you can grow in

be a part of a missional community

get flexible jobs around people who you begin to reach for Christ.

Consider giving two years after graduation to doing this in a foreign country where there is a good missions team.

2. Pick a spouse who is going to partner with you in God’s mission. (2 Cor. 6:14)

Ashley - Gaining traction in her walk with God. Began living for Jesus. A handsome gentlemen began to show interest in her.

It is better to stay single, than to link up with a spouse who is not going stay focused on Christ’s mission.

2 Corinthians 6:14 ESV

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Run the bases.

Jesus must be your master.

The Great Commission must be your life mission.

Your mate must be running these “bases” with you.

You don’t want to marry someone who says they love God, yet a few years down the road is more concerned about houses, cars and nice vacations than they are about reaching the world for Christ.

3. Don’t be discouraged when you face trials. (James 1:2-3)

Adult life brings more responsibility and it can seem overwhelming at times.

James 1:2–3 NIV

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

Just because it is hard, doesn’t mean your life is somehow more broken than everyone elses.

The world has been broken by sin, and everything begins to deteriorate the moment it is made.

You need to do maintenance but not get so stuck in maintenance that you loose sight of the big picture.

This is a balancing act.

Keep your focus on fulfilling your purpose:

Know Christ

Love God

Glorify Him

Join him in his mission of making disciples of all nations.

4. Don’t try to do it alone.(Heb. 3:13)

Hebrews 3:13 NIV

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

You will need daily Christian fellowship.

Ask for help, prayer and counsel.

Allow your brothers and sisters in Christ to encourage you.
