Call to Worship

Wait for the Lord, like those who hope in God’s mercy.
God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Prayer of Invocation

Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leads to eternal glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life
[1] “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. [2] In my Father’s house are
many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? [3] And if I
go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you
may be also. [4] And you know the way to where I am going.” [5] Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do
not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” [6] Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and
the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. [7] If you had known me, you
would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
[8] Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” [9] Jesus said to him, “Have
I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the

Prayer of Confession

Lord, you come to us, but we do not recognize you; you call, but we do not follow; you command, but we do not obey, you bless us, but we do not thank you. Please forgive and help us. Lord, you accept us, but we do not accept others; you forgive us, but we do not forgive those who wrong us; you love us, but we do not love our neighbors. Please forgive and help us. Lord, you showed us how to carry out your mission, but we still insist on our own; you identified yourself with outcasts, the needy, and the poor, but we do not bother to find out what is happening to them; you suffered and died for the sake of all, but we do not give up our comfortable lives. Please forgive and help us, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Faith in what? Faith in Whom?
Faith: Hebrews 11:1 11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
Eph.2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
James 2:17 “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
Do we truly believe & trust that it’s 100% on Jesus?

The Power of Desperation
This is not for everyone. Everyone in the crowd was not healed. Not all that died were raised.
There is need for expressed desperation with the object being Jesus
The Bruised Reed
Isaiah 42:1-3 “Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice.”
Our Need is His Opportunity- I am weak, he is strong
We need to be open about our weaknesses, unashamed b/c we cry out to Jesus to heal us

Faith in people. Seeing the small evidences, rejoicing with them, pointing out their faith and that that is the thing that will bring them ultimate healing.

Closing Prayer:

Loving God, we are yours. We come as we are, with our cares and concerns. We long to touch you and find healing in your embrace. Strengthen our faith and heal our brokenness, that we may worship you with joy. Amen.
