John 21:1 . After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself. 2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. 3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

Another version of the bible says Jn 21:2–3. Later Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Lake of Galilee. This is how it happened: 2. A group of us were there—Simon Peter, Thomas, “The Twin,” Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, my brother James and I and two other disciples. 3. Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.”“We’ll come too,” we all said. We did, but caught nothing all night. 4. At dawn we saw a man standing on the beach but couldn’t see who he was.

To begin with I’m going fishing. in this gracious text we can glint gleam and gaze at a glimpse of gratitude and say out loud God is Good and His Wonders to perform. In this glorious text we can fins some prominent features that live on in our hearts and minds. Well can I tell the story? Brothers and sisters this is the third time that Jesus has appeared unto the disciple after the Resurrection from the dead. And this is where the Master meets His disciples with a Message of hope for the masses from the Messiah of Heaven. The text explicitly says that Peter, James, John, Nathaniel Andrew Phillip and even doubting Thomas. But this time Thomas is faithfully engaged with the Brethren. They have gone fishing. What is the motive here? I’ll tell you they have lost their motivation to move forward with ministry. They thought that Jesus was gone off the scene never to be seen again. But verse 5 says that Jesus calls out and say Fellows have you caught any fish? The bible says they said No not even a bite.Maybe they didn’t catch nothing but at least they are trying to catch some fish. And the old preachers use to say

“You got to catch the fish before you can clean the fish”. I see something wrong with this picture. Peter a-nem were supposed to be on their study march up the king’s highway but they have gone back to fishing. Jesus hand picked them. They had an exclusive invitation to be an integral part of ministry. let me prove it, in Luke 6:12  At that time Jesus went off to a mountain to pray, and he spent the night praying to God. 13 The next morning, Jesus called his followers to him and chose twelve of them, whom he named apostles: 14 Simon (Jesus named him Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon (called the Zealot), 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who later turned Jesus over to his enemies. Brothers and sisters they were ordained to do the work of Ministry. And then to top it all off. In John 20:22 The bible says that Jesus spoke words of wisdom to them and then breathed the Holy Ghost onto them. They recieved the gift of the Holy Ghost. It can’t get no mo intimate than that! no only that but Jesus had also given them authority and power. But Power without responsibility is reckless. Here’s what I mean in Luke 9:19 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. 2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. 4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. 5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. 6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.

Brothers and sisters Jesus gave his disciples the formula for success. He gave them super powers so to speak and they wielded those powers like irresponsible children. How do you know that!!!They gone back fishing. When you receive the Holy Ghost it’s supposed to change you. You supposed to be a bigger better person,Amen? But the disciples were quick to return to their old ways.

The bible says he who puts his hand to the Gospel plough is not fit for the Kingdom of God. The disciples are quick to return to their old ways of doing things. And the only upside I can see to this awful scenario is that

1. Fishermen are dedicated to their craft

2. Fishermen are singularly focused on doing one thing and to doing one thing very well.

3. Fishermen are courageous people because sometimes the seas can be rough and tough.

#4. And finally the Fishermen are telling Jesus that they have diligently toiled all night long and have caught nothing.

And so Jesus in John 21:6 with his Omniscient Nature knew that if they would be obedient and cast their net on the right side of the boat they would catch some fish. The bible says they caught so much fish until they couldn’t pull the net in. And that simply tells us to be obedient to the word of God and you will be successful in your endeavors.

Can I tell the story? The closer they got to the land the more Peter a nem recognized that it was Jesus. Peter put his fishermen’s coat on and jump in the water and hurried to the landing. the other disciples slowly dragged the multitude of fishes to the seashore.

and In verse 9 The bible says that Jesus had piping hot fish ready and bread ready for them for breakfast. And Jesus said bring what you caught to Me. And metaphorically and spiritually that is to say to us that “we ought to be able to bring somebody to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ”.

Get this now, Jesus knew they were tired and had been pressing all night long fishing. Whether they caught something or not they were tired from the grind of the work.

(God told me I don’t hold you for the results but I hold you for the duty and responsibility on ministry)And brothers and sisters The Master has prepared a feast for them. Jesus prepares a table for us as well. Becauss the bible says in the 23rd Psalms He prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

The bible says in verse 13 that Jesus serves then bread and fish. And this was the third time Jesus appeared unto them. The appearances of Jesus is symbolic of the important need to fellowship. Brothers and sisters let us never forget to have fellowship with the Lord and with each other.

In John 21:15 After breakfast Jesus began a theological discourse with Peter. Jesus said, Peter do you love me more than these? Peter said yeah Lord I Love you. Jesus said well feed my lambs. Jesus is saying to Peter three different times Peter Do you Love Me? Jesus also On three different times told Peter to feed the flock of God. Jesus gave three admonitions to Peter. Feed my Lambs, Shepherd My Sheep, Then Feed MY Sheep” Listen very carefully both the Lambs and the more mature Sheep need leading and feeding and nurturing.

In other words this church must have teaching and preaching and a sure method of reaching the needs of the congregation on their levels. Listen to me Not just on one level, but all the levels. We all have different learning styles, different cognitive abilities, and different cultural interpretations of the word of God. And that’s why the word of God says “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”.

One person might hear it one way the other person might hear it another way but both persons are getting what’s needful for them to be successful.

Question is, Is there anybody here that want to know why Jesus ask Peter three time if he Love Him and three times to Feed the flock of God publickly. Because we know that the word of God says “Feed the flock over the which the Holy Ghost have made him overseer” The real reason Jesus publicly confronted Peter about loving Him was because Peter publicly denied knowing Jesus Christ when things got hot for him when he was outside in the cold warming himself in courtyard right outside where they were having Jesus on Trial.

And the Spiritual connotation was that Jesus had to restore Peter publicly. Listen to me real carefully “You can’t fall off the wagon and just come back into church and jump into a high position of leadership”. NO NO NO It’s a process because Peter was the chief apostle.

And I imagine the process to be a changed from fisherman to shepherd. For some people it’s a hard thing.

And one day I had to honestly say Are you a preacher or are you a musician. I’m under contract with the Lord. And I’m commissioned and commanded to lead and feed the flock of God with out bias and favoritism or clicks or clans because I pastor all of God’s people. and so Let’s keep the church going forward and let’s all be on one accord.
