Luke 7:36–50 (ESV) 36 One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. 37 And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, 38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” 40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.” 44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” 49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?” 50 And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

“ Lessons from a sinner about Gratefulness & Worship “

This story is similar
in many ways
to the events described
in Matthew 26:6–13; Mark 14:3–9; John 12:2–8,
but it is clearly a different incident.
That occasion there
took place in Bethany,
near Jerusalem,
during the Passion Week.
In the anointing at Bethany,
it was Mary,
sister of Martha and Lazarus,
who anointed Jesus.
This incident
takes place in Galilee
and involves “a woman …
who was a sinner” (i.e., a prostitute).
There is no reason
to identify this woman
with Mary Magdalene,
as some have done.

“ Lessons from a sinner about Gratefulness & Worship “

There’s some lesson’s
That we can learn
From this woman
Who is a sinner
But there’s some people
That get so high & pious
That they can’t
Learn from NOBODY
And the truth
Of the matter is
If you’re teachable
You can learn from anybody
EVEN FROM A SINNER
Let’s look at some people we can learn from as christians
You can learn from the
LGBTQ community — How they come out the closet & christians is in the closet
LGBTQ community — Stand up for their rights but christians is not standing up for God
You can learn from a
ALCOHOLICS — How they share there bottle with Love and christians don’t share in love one with another
You can learn from someone that’s addicted to
DRUGS — They will take their last and the last of anybody else to get their fix but christians want take their last for the Lord
You can learn from a
PROSTITUTE — she will give her body away to strangers and christians want present their bodies as living sacrifices to the Lord

“ Lessons from a sinner about Gratefulness & Worship “

Note: But there will never be AUTHENTIC WORSHIP without a spirit of Gratefulness
Note: The gratefulness & worship that this sinner had , God expects every believer to have this type of gratefulness & worship
This woman
This sinful woman
This woman of the city
This immoral woman
This prostitute
This sinful woman
Without being taught
Without having biblical knowledge
Without having someone take her by the hand
Came to this Pharisee’s house
Where Jesus was
Uninvited
With a Grateful spirit & a act of Worship
This woman worship
Was so authentic and real
To where she never
Open her mouth like most church folks
In other words
She didn't have
Lip service
But she had ACTIONS
Note: She understood being Grateful & a Worshiper was a Lifestyle
She did 7 things
To express her
Gratefulness & Worship
To Jesus
And never opened her mouth
Verse 37:
“ Brought an alabaster flask of ointment ”
Verse 38:
“ Standing behind Him at His feet “
“ Weeping “
“ Wet His feet with her tears “
“ Wiped them with her hair “
“ Kissed His feet “
“ Anointed His feet “
[ The central Truth is this ]
Those who recognize the depths of their forgiveness from God, will demonstrate their gratefulness and love for the Savior in tangible ways.
You see
We don’t have
The advantage
To actual doing for Jesus
Like this sinful woman
But
We still do for Jesus
By keeping His commandments
And the support
Of your local church

Lesson 1

1st. In her Gratefulness & Worship she SAW herself ( V. 37 )

Luke 7:37 (ESV)
37 And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment,
Now those of us
That’s saved
We are not sinners anymore
We are children
Of the Most High God
Adopted into God’s family
But we have to see
Who we are
Before Jesus
Because
We still fall
Psalm 139:23-24
1st Cor. 11:28
Example: If two men are running to catch a plane, and man one is an hour late and the other is one minute late who is in the worst situation. They both missed the flight.
Note: Do you see YOURSELF today

Luke 7:39 ESV
39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”
Pharisee — means separated or divided
The more Grateful
You are
And the more Authentic
Your worship is
Get ready to be scrutinize
Note: People have know idea what you been thru in life

Lesson 3

1st. In her Gratefulness & Worship she SAW herself ( V. 37 )

Verses 40-47
Shows us why she sacrifices
Jesus tells this Pharisee
Why this woman
Is so grateful
And worships me
It’s when you realize
How much God
Has done for you
The deeper the Gratefulness
The more authentic the Worship
READ verse 40-47
Luke 7:40-47 40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A certain moneylender had two debtors. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.”
Weeping — to cry freely and profusely from sadness or distress
To Wet — rain, send rain, wet, shower, to be bathed, drenched
Kiss — to kiss fervently, to embrace, to caress
The alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil. Mark sets the value at “more than three hundred denarii” (see note on Mark 14:5), nearly a year’s wages—very costly indeed. Even the expensive flask was broken (Mark 14:3), making the act that much more costly. Alabaster was a fine variety of marble, quarried in Egypt, which could be carved into delicate containers for storing costly perfumes.
This woman
Had a lifestyle of sinning
Now she has a lifestyle
Of Sacrificing
When she looks
Over her life
She realizes
That nothing is to much for the Lord
Note: It’s not the people that have been kept FROM STUFF that’s grateful but it’s the people that been kept THRU STUFF that’s grateful

1st. In her Gratefulness & Worship she SAW herself ( V. 37 )

2nd She paid no mind to the SCRUTINIZING of religious people ( V. 39 )

3rd Gratefulness & Worship is not without Sacrifice ( V. 37 )

4th Gratefulness & Worship is not without serving ( V. 38 )

Luke 7:38 ESV
38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.
Note: Her works didn’t save her but they give evidence of the presence of FAITH, which brought about her FORGIVENESS.
Note: Instead of water for Jesus’ feet, this woman had provided tears, indication of repentance. Instead of a kiss upon the cheek, she had planted ever so many fervent kisses on the feet, symbols of humble gratitude. And instead of cheap olive oil for the head, she had poured precious and fragrant perfume on the feet!
Note: When you look at your life how can you not serve
Note: But you have to serve in a way that’s COSTLY
Note: Cain & Abel both serve but Abel serves was COSTLY that’s why God excepted his
2 Samuel 24:24 ESV
24 But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
Luke 2:36–38 ESV
36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37 and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
