We are here to Celebrate Doug’s life today.
OBITUARY
Doug is in a different season now. A season is a time or a period of time. Today Doug is standing face to face with God and Jesus. If you are a christian, when you die you go directly to heaven to be face to face with Jesus.
2 Cor 5:8 “8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
What is a celebration --- the action of marking one's pleasure at an important event
At this important event we are going to mark Doug’s pleasure through thoughts you
have that are personal, and thoughts you would like to share with all of us. I didn’t know Doug for very many years and only on horse camping trips. He always seemed joyful, happy, liked to come and sit around a campfire and fellowship everyone. His best friend and companion seemed to be his dog Rooster. While we were away trail riding for hours Doug and Rooster kept each other company. They might take a nap or fiddle around the campsite together.
Sermon
Gen 8:22 “22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Seasons of the earth and our lives. The new season that Doug is in, a new place (heaven) and a new home --- John 14:1-3 “1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
1 Cor 15:53-57 “53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
