Proverbs 31:26-30 “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; And in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, But thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.”

I. Intro

Today is a special day—a day when we come together to honor and celebrate the incredible women in our lives who have nurtured, loved, and guided us with unwavering devotion. It is Mother's Day, a day set aside to recognize and appreciate the immeasurable impact of mothers. Mothers play a unique and vital role in our lives. They are the ones who carried us in their wombs, who selflessly sacrificed their time, energy, and sleep to care for us when we were helpless infants. They are the ones who held our hands as we took our first steps, wiped away our tears when we stumbled, and cheered us on as we reached new milestones. On this joyous occasion of Mother's Day, we come together to honor and appreciate the extraordinary love, sacrifice, and grace of the women who have nurtured and shaped our lives. Today, let us delve into the depths of a mother's heart, explore the profound essence of motherhood, and reflect on the divine qualities that make mothers a beacon of God's love in our lives.

II. The Love of a Mother

Unconditional Love
A mother's love knows no bounds, transcending the realms of time and circumstance. It is a love that is constant, unwavering, and unconditional. A mother's heart is an epitome of God's boundless love, embracing her children with warmth and tenderness, offering solace and strength in every season of life.
Sacrificial Love
A mother's love is synonymous with sacrifice. From the moment of conception, a mother endures physical discomfort, emotional challenges, and countless sleepless nights to bring forth life. A mother's love goes beyond her own needs, as she selflessly devotes herself to the well-being and happiness of her children. It is in her sacrificial love that we catch a glimpse of God's sacrificial love for us.

III. The Sacrifice of a Mother

The gift of time
Mothers unselfishly invest their time, dedicating countless hours to caring for their children. They prioritize their children's needs, offering a listening ear, providing guidance, and imparting wisdom. A mother's sacrifice of time is a testament to her commitment to raising her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
Nurturing and Provision
Mothers are the backbone of the family, ensuring that their children's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met. They nourish their children's bodies with food, their minds with knowledge, and their spirits with love and faith. A mother's sacrifice in nurturing and providing for her children mirrors God's provision and care for His children.
Two women who lived in the same house had given birth to babies around the same time. Unfortunately, one of the women accidentally smothered her own child while sleeping, and upon realizing this, she switched her dead baby with the other woman's living baby while she was asleep. In the morning, when the other woman woke up and saw that her baby was dead, she recognized that it was not her child. However, the first woman insisted that the living baby was hers and the dead baby belonged to the other woman. The two women brought their case before King Solomon for a judgment. The king, known for his wisdom, ordered a sword to be brought. He declared that the living baby should be divided into two halves and each woman should receive half. At this point, the true mother of the living baby revealed her love and concern for her child. She pleaded with the king not to kill the baby but instead to give him to the other woman. The false mother, on the other hand, agreed to the division. Seeing the genuine love and sacrifice displayed by the true mother, Solomon discerned the truth and ordered the baby to be given to her. The people of Israel were amazed at Solomon's wisdom and recognized that God had given him divine insight. This story illustrates the wisdom of King Solomon and how he used his discernment to identify the true mother based on her selfless love for her child. It also demonstrates the lengths to which a mother's love will go to protect and care for her child.
1 Kings 3:16-22 “Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him. And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house. And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it. And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear. And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.”
1 Kings 3:23-28 “Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living. And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.”

IV. The Grace of a Mother

Forgiveness and Understanding
A mother's heart holds an extraordinary capacity for forgiveness and understanding. Through their unconditional love, mothers have the ability to see beyond the flaws and mistakes of their children, offering forgiveness and extending grace. In their grace-filled embrace, children learn about the redemptive power of love and forgiveness.
Encouragement and Empowerment
Mothers are powerful agents of encouragement and empowerment. They inspire their children to dream, believe in themselves, and reach for the stars. A mother's grace-filled words and actions have the potential to shape the destiny of her children, instilling in them the confidence to overcome challenges and embrace their true potential.
Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
A mother's words and speech can be filled with grace, building up and encouraging her children.
