This is one of the doctrines, one of the beliefs, in Christianity that people have trouble with. Especially with Hell. It’s funny how that works, right!?
But the Bible tells us that there is more than just this Earth.

God's Word tells us Heaven and Hell are real and that everyone will be in one or the other in eternity.

Hell is real.

Hell is the absence of God’s presence. His presence is the reason for any and all goodness on the Earth.
Think about good things… In the complete absence of God, those things are all completely absent.
Hell is also eternal
2 Thessalonians 1:9 ESV
They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
Hell is a place of darkness and torment
Matthew 25:30 ESV
And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Hell is a place of fiery torment
Mark 9:47–48 ESV
And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’
Objections to Hell
It’s a metaphor about a dump…
It’s not eternal…
It won’t last or people won’t last…
We must let the Word of God define Hell, not the culture.

Heaven is real.

Think of your favorite place on the Earth. Your happy place. It’s lame compared to Heaven.
read from Rev 21 & 22
Heaven itself is not the gift. Heaven is only great because God lives there. He is the gift!
We must let the Bible define and explain Heaven, not the culture.

We will be in one or the other.

Scripture is clear on this.
Matthew 25:31–34 ESV
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
Matthew 25:41 ESV
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
Matthew 25:46 ESV
And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
God is honored and glorified in the displaying of his character. His character, his justice, his righteous wrath, his perfection, his grace, his love, all on display through Heaven and Hell.
What determines where we go?
John 3:18 ESV
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Many ask the question “how could God send good people to Hell?” or “how could a loving God send people to such a terrible place?”
First…
Luke 18:19 ESV
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
Maybe you think you’re a good person, especially compared to…
Rebecca McLaughlin uses this illustration in the book. Imagine you had a thought bubble over your head for a day. Every thought you had showed up in the bubble. How would you feel about that? Would people think you’re a good person after that? That would be devastating for me! She says it would ruin most of the relationships in her life!
Second…
