Introduction

Miguel Amaya
Miguel Amaya got called up from the Tennessee Smokies to their Chicago Cubs. His parents, Max and Anny Oro flew up from Panama and saw his MLB debut when they played the Nationals in Washington DC. Then they were able to fly up to watch him play on May 6th at Wrigley Field in Chicago to play the Miami Marlins. where he got his first hit and RBI.
May 6th - “It’s been special for me as a mother and for him to get his first hit…We have been living every step with our son and this is emotional. This is a dream that we are living and it’s all thanks to God above for him to be able to do that.” Anny Oro.
In the interviews with the parents - constant theme of trusting God and prayer.
As moms, as parents, as those who have influence on a younger generation, there is the call to pray. Paul expresses this call and the confidence we can have as we pray.
This passage concludes the first half of this book detailing what we believe. He closes it as a doxology. A word about the glory of God.

Celebrate God’s Power

v. 20a
Able = powerful. “Beyond all measure” A super-abundance!
What does a super-abundance look like?
Pasta Mystery.
More than you can ask or imagine. What can you imagine? Quite a bit!
Scripture says
God can do even more than you can imagine.
Are we asking too little?
“I don’t want to bother God with this.” Or, “Can God do it?”
Are you boldly praying for your children? Neighbors? Friends? Co-Workers? Marriage? Direction?

Celebrate God’s Working

v. 20b
Reuse of the word “able” / “power” for connection.
God is working in you!
Salvation / Sanctification - honest opinion - we need God’s work and you know what He’s done!
You’ve experienced that power that is working!
We limit what God is doing.
Dog & porcupine.
Don’t resist God’s work in your life.
Are you resisting the help God offers?

Celebrate God’s Glory

v. 21
Glory = Radiance of God’s presence. Brightness!
Natural expectation, formula, glory in Christ.
When you see Jesus, you see the goodness of God.
However, something unique here, even coming before Jesus: the church.
When you see the church, you see the goodness of God.
Is this true? It is when the church maintains the purity of the Gospel. But when we mix in other things...
Who is to see this glory?
“throughout all generations”
An exciting thing about Eastwood: multi-generational. When I came here compared to now.
But, as we talk about our families, we know of our kids that we are praying for who grew up in the church and chose to walk away.
As I talk to people, it isn’t a rejection of Jesus but of the church.
I think this is related to where the church has muddied the Gospel by mixing in other things.
And the promise we see about the perseverance of the Gospel: “of the age of the ages!” Amen. Let it be so.
A phrase that is adopted in country music. Randy Travis “Forever and ever, amen.” [Deeper than the holler]
This is how long the Gospel will continue on.

Conclusion

Remember the Titans - Denzel Washington / Coach Herman Boone and Will Patton / Coach Bill Yoast in a Virginia High school in the midst of desegregation of the 1971.
As the movie portrays it, Alexandria, VA was filled with racial prejudice and it was the job of Coach Boone to form a single team out of the antagonistic black and white players. That actual team went 13-0 that year outscoring their opponents 357-45 with nine shut-outs.
The theme of the movie is that the team was better when the two groups, divided by their ethnicity, came together. However unlikely that unity was.
Paul was dealing with a very similar situation. Two ethnicities who both perceived themselves as the superior party. But, Paul knew they could do so much more together. And that unity seemed unlikely.
Except that God is able to do more than Paul could ever ask or even imagine. And that church would go on and do great things!
What could you ask God to do?
Family. Job. Anxiety. Provision.
God, as our Good and Loving Father, desires to hear your prayers.
