The reaction was swift and powerful
People stopped drinking Bud Light
It’s sales dropped 26% in three weeks
Social media is flooded with pictures of shelves full of the beer and no lines at sports venues
Consumers made it loud and clear they are not interested in supporting a transgender man
What made Bud light do it?
The ad exec said she wanted to move the beer away from toxic male frat boy image
There is an attack on men
What has been accepted as nor manhood for centuries is now being called toxic masculinity
Some men have responded by becoming a feminized version of a man
We used to call them Metro
Others have retaliated by becoming more obnoxious
Neither are the answer

Read 1 Cor 16:13-14

This morning I want to give you 8 traits of Biblical masculinity
Protection
The first trait of Biblical Masculinity is Protection
Paul tells us to “Be watchful”
Means to be in continuous readiness, to be alert, vigilant
The picture here is of a guard who is an watchtower
His job is to protect from the outside forces
A Biblical man protects those who God has put around him
It starts in the home but also includes the job and the church
Ephesians 6:10 ESV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Discipline
The second trait of Biblical Masculinity is Discipline
To stand firm means to remain steadfast, unmovable
It means not to retreat when things go south
This takes discipline, especially in of “Do what makes you happy”
A Biblical man should be a rock to his family
That comes from being disciplined
Colossians 1:10–11 ESV
so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;
Humble
The third trait of Biblical Masculinity is Humility
Be Humble
Where do you get humble from this passage?
Paul is telling us to stand firm in the “FAITH”
Faith is believing in a higher power
As Christians, we put our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord
We submit ourselves under his leadership
For that to work you need to humble yourself
James 4:10 ESV
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Responsibility
The fourth trait of Biblical Masculinity is responsibility
Paul tells his readers to act like men
Essentially what he is saying is “grow up” be mature
Don’t act like boys
1 Corinthians 13:11 ESV
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
Provide
The fifth trait of Biblical Masculinity is to Provide
Next Paul tells his readers to be strong
Being strong is the ability to provide for your family
The basics is having a job that puts food on the table, but that’s just the beginning
You need to provide a safe and secure home
You need to provide the confidence that your children are willing to step out in faith and now cower in fear
Sacrifice
The sixth trait of Biblical Masculinity is Sacrifice
The world will tell you strength is fortune, physical fitness, and influence
The Bible shows us through Jesus that a strong person denies themselves
Mark 8:34 ESV
And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
Guys, lets be honest
Our waistlines remind us that denial and sacrifice are tough
Love
The seventh trait of Biblical Masculinity is to Love
The word for love here is Agape, which is unconditional love that God shows us
1 John 4:18 ESV
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
Prepare
The eighth and final trait of Biblical Masculinity is to Prepare
Proverbs 22:6 ESV
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
