Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
The Purpose of the Belt
The Purpose of the Belt
Why is the belt the first piece of the Armor of God, And in what way does it help us stand firm.
Keep in mind that warfare back then was largely hand to hand combat. Roman soldiers wore loose fitting clothing Robes just like everyone else so they used a belt keep their clothes close to their body preventing enemies from using it as a handhold to throw them by.

Secondly most people had capes for winter or rainy weather but again you did not want hand holds or trip hazards in battle so you either took it off or you fastened your belt around it so it was out of the way.
So if the belt was used as such how does truth perform the same functions for the believer.
In order to answer that we must first define truth.

Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him.
Jesus makes the claim he came to bear witness to the truth and Pilate asks what is truth
God is truth
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
All truth comes from God, God is truth in him is no falsehood.
The Word is truth
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
The bible is true it is literally the words of God if we trust God then we can trust the word.
The Gospel is truth
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
Here the word of truth is further defined as the Gospel of your salvation. Thus the Gospel is truth. Notice that in all three cases there is an element of faith involved an idea of trusting or believing in the truth.
Truth is not merely factual accuracy but rather it also entails that something is trustworthy reliable or believable. You can put your faith in it.
Thus the belt of Truth speaks of our character our faithfulness and trustworthiness. If we are to do battle against the forces of evil we must be prepared by surrounding ourselves by securing ourselves in God’s truth.
Not only do we not lie but people can count on us to do what we say we will do and moreover that we can be counted on to do whatever needs to be done. We have a whatever it takes attitude.
Jesus was willing to die for the truth of the Gospel. To display the truth of his love to the world. 2000 years later that truth that faithfulness is still being discussed all over the world and it changes lives everyday.
You want to have an effect on the world. Be the kind of person who people can trust be a person of truth. Put on the belt of Truth today.

The Protection of the Belt of Truth
Always keep in mind we have an enemy who is seeking to destroy us
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
The primary way he does this is by trying to either lie to us and get us to stray from the truth or worse he manipulates us into lying and thereby destroys our reputations and trustworthiness so that no one will believe the truth of the Gospel when we share it.
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
You see The devil stands in stark contrast to the truthfulness and faithfulness of God. He is a liar in whom their is no truth. God therefore gives us the belt of truth as protection against him. For when one knows the truth one cannot be manipulated by lies.
Thus we need to secure ourselves with the belt of truth that we might not be tripped up by the lies of Satan. That We might be able to stand firm against his attacks with falsehoods. Do not give the enemy any handholds against you but stand firm in the truthfulness of God.
Trust him his word and his gospel over the lies of the world.
