What will you find in the will of God?

I. You Find Direction. V.1

1 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,

Direction in preaching.

2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV)

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Direction in showing. Nehemiah 8:8

So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

Direction in knowing.

Romans 14:17 (KJV)

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

II. You Find Devils. V.2

2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,

Evil spirits.

“evil” - profoundly immoral and wicked

“spirits” -

The term soul specifies that in the immaterial part of man that concerns life, action, and emotion. Spirit is that part related to worship and divine communion. (Meril F. Unger)

These evil spirits are agents of evil attacking people relating to their worship and fellowship with God Himself.

These are the ones that snatch the word away from the lost like vs.5, 12 in this very chapter.

These are the ones that oppress believers and fill them with pride so they think they are too good to go to church with other believers.

These are the ones that convince people their particular sins are okay with God.

Infirmities.

Physical or mental weakness (Oxford)

The physical weakness to obey sin.

The mental weakness to obey sin.

Devils.

These are influencers.

They influence wrong beliefs. “Doctrines of devils”

1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV)

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

They influence wrong behavior. (Opposite of 1 Timothy 3:15)

There is hope.

“healed” can be to become sound or healthy again mentally.

“out of whom went seven devils”

Why do these attack women primarily?

III. You Find Diplomats. V.3

3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.

They provide for the journey of others providentially.

“ministered” - attended to the needs (Galatians 6:10)

They provide for the journey of others personally.

“their” - out of their things or money

They provide for the journey of others practically.

“substance” - things they owned that meant something to the giver
