2 Peter 3:1-9
2 Peter 3:1-9
Introduction:
Sometimes waiting on things that are promised can result in a lack of trust and in disbelief.
Because the longer the promise goes unfulfilled, the more people tend to doubt it.
A promise is a statement of assurance given by a creditable source.
The creditable source in the passage tonight is God. The assurance is His promise to return and patience toward sinners and saints.
CIT: Peter wrote to remind the Christians to not give up on the promise of Jesus’s return.
OBJ: Christians should never questioned the return of Christ, because the Word of God promises His return will come.
Therefore, as followers of Christ, we needed reminded that God will fulfill His promises.
The impact statement of this text is 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
You may be here and doubt the return of Jesus. You may questioning why God is allowing the sin, injustices, and transgression in this world to go on.
Well, that is God decision, but I think 2 Peter 3:9 is a measure stick as to why Jesus has not returned.
God is patient and wanting people to repent.
But just because the return of Christ has not happened, is not a reason to question it or doubt it.
Why?
1. The Assurance of God’s Word ( 1-2)
2. The Mockery Of False Teachers (3-7)
3. The Perspective Of God’s Timing (8)
