Introduction.

Hands down, one of the greatest movies that there ever has been is Forrest Gump. Tom Hanks, Sally Fields, and Gary kineese all at their best.
One of the famous lines in the movies is “Momma always said, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what youre gonna get”
There are multiple lines in that movie about Mama, but that is by far the most famous one.
There is also the movie Waterboy, Mama Said aligators are so ornry cause they got all them teeth and no toothbrush.
It is in many many movies and we truly, as a human race, have an affection for the words of our mother.
The role of the mother is unmatched. Without intervention, a child can not live without a mother. The mother is the one that supplies the life to the child in the womb and continues to do so outside the womb until it can provide for itself.
A father could die when the child is in the womb or outside of the womb, but the child could still make it from their mother. The child would certainly be disadvantage, but the mother has what the child NEEDS for life.
I also love to go and watch the gorilas at the zoo. it is by far my favorite group of animals to watch. The best part is watching the moms. They are constantly having to take care of the babies and chase them around. Honestly looks my house most days. Dads typically chilling, only comes in for reinforcements or when the mom gives that “I have had enough look”
‘There is no doubt that Moms are important, but just as important as the nutrients and life they give us, it is equally important the lessons they teach through both their actions and their words.
I can remember many lessons from my mom. I can remember lessons she has taught me with her words. Typically the things she would say to me over and over and over and over again obviously because i needed to hear it the most.
I can also remmeber lessons she taught me by her actions and deeds and service in the church and to those around us.
So in honor of mothers day. I want to give you a few lessons I learned from my mom that are rooted in scripture and will help us reach the community around us.
Lesson 1
1.) Dont get your cart before the horse.
I had to start with this one. This is probably the one my mom told me the most. I have always had problems with rushing into things.
Its a great quality and a bad quality.
Church job and engagement
Proverbs 24:27 NASB95
27 Prepare your work outside And make it ready for yourself in the field; Afterwards, then, build your house.
work the field build the home
chruch planting is hard work. Many fail when they build the home and do not work the field
Lesson 2
2.) Don’t worry about things that are out of your control.
Matthew 6:25–34 NASB95
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
I have spent so much time worrying about things in my life
You cant worry about AMC
You cant worry about where we will meet next
You cant worry about how people will react or even if they show
Yes we plan and we schedule and we work hard, but God is the supplier.
Lesson 3
3. ) True Love has no boundaries and impacts all who witness it
My mother has cared for some of the most lonely and forgotten people in this area for most of my life.
Matthew 9:1–9 NASB95
1 Getting into a boat, Jesus crossed over the sea and came to His own city. 2 And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.” 3 And some of the scribes said to themselves, “This fellow blasphemes.” 4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, “Why are you thinking evil in your hearts? 5 “Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, and walk’? 6 “But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, pick up your bed and go home.” 7 And he got up and went home. 8 But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men. 9 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.
look at Jesus example
Are people amazed by your love of the unloveable
Lesson 4
4.) People will not care about you or your message until they know you really care about them
Watching my mother care for older people
she became their family they call her daughter
James 1:23–27 NASB95
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. 26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
