Relationship with the Church

When we think about the world church almost all of us will think of the building we go to.

What is the church

A collection of people that meet together for the worship of the Judaeo-christian God. This only applies to the worship of God after the coming of Christ.

in the early church the world church was never looked at as a building we go to.

Global church:

the overall church as a whole is the global church. It is one holy catholic(universal) church. meaning that every christian who is currently alive has past and will come belongs to one church. and christ is the head forever

Local Church:

many local

they started with the collections of people in homes

Paul writes to cities not a specific building

went to regional bodies: c

had buildings then they had large churches

Why the church is important

Jesus loves his church. he calls the church his bride. His house. his family, the people he loves

Jesus absolutely loves his church.

Matthew 16:17–19 ESV

17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Jesus has a special care for his church as it is the collective body of those who call him lord and king
