Acts 13:26–28 NKJV
26 “Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent. 27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him. 28 And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death.
The people, rulers in Jerusalem erred concerning the will of God because they did not know him and the voices of the prophets.
The will of God for the people of Jerusalem was to repent and obey the Gospel of The Kingdom, but instead of repenting and beleiving in Christ for the salvation of the souls they condemmed him.
Tha Apostle Paul attributes their error to two things,
NOt Knowing Jesus (GOd)
NOt knowing the Voice of God’s prophets
To err concerning God’s will can be attributed to this two things.
Not knowing God
Not knowing (discerining the voice of God’s prophets )

Not Knowing God.

John 16:1–4 NKJV
1 “These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble. 2 They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. 3 And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. 4 But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. “And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.
Saul as an example
Jeremiah 4:22 NKJV
22 “For My people are foolish, They have not known Me. They are silly children, And they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, But to do good they have no knowledge.”
Two aspect of knowing God.
Knoweldge.
Hosea 6:1–3 NKJV
1 Come, and let us return to the Lord; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. 2 After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight. 3 Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth.
Hosea 6:6 NKJV
6 For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Hosea 4:1 NKJV
1 Hear the word of the Lord, You children of Israel, For the Lord brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: “There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land.
1 Corinthians 15:34 NKJV
34 Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.
Knoweldge of God is not merely head knowledge.
It is knowing God from the heart.
Knoweldge of God that goes beyond the mind (transends the mind) and goes into the heart making that knoweldge personal.
Ephesians 1:16–18 (NKJV)
16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
A persnoal knowledge of God upon which our relationship with God is established.
1 Samuel 2:12 NKJV
12 Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the Lord.
They were preist in superficial way because they did not know God from the heart.
They know of God in the mind, through the law but they do not know him personally, hence they life was not transformed. They were corrupt.
1 Chronicles 28:9 “9 “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.”
The Voice of the prophets.
Acts 13:27 NKJV
27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him.
Note: it does not say the words but voice.
Why is it important to be able to discern the voice of God’s prophets?
God leads his people by his prophets.
Hosea 12:13 NKJV
13 By a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet he was preserved.
What is a prophet
A prophet is God’s messenger, who speaks to God’s people in behalf of God.
Ezekiel 3:1–11 (NKJV)
1 Moreover He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.”
2 So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that scroll.
3 And He said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.” So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness.
4 Then He said to me: “Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak with My words to them.
5 For you are not sent to a people of unfamiliar speech and of hard language, but to the house of Israel,
6 not to many people of unfamiliar speech and of hard language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely, had I sent you to them, they would have listened to you.
7 But the house of Israel will not listen to you, because they will not listen to Me; for all the house of Israel are impudent and hard-hearted.
8 Behold, I have made your face strong against their faces, and your forehead strong against their foreheads.
9 Like adamant stone, harder than flint, I have made your forehead; do not be afraid of them, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.”
10 Moreover He said to me: “Son of man, receive into your heart all My words that I speak to you, and hear with your ears.
11 And go, get to the captives, to the children of your people, and speak to them and tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ whether they hear, or whether they refuse.”
A prophet is someone who goes to the presence of God, hears God’s words and receive it in his heart and transmit that word to the people of God.
Ezekiel 2:5 NKJV
5 As for them, whether they hear or whether they refuse—for they are a rebellious house—yet they will know that a prophet has been among them.
God has always a prophet in every time to speak his word.
He had jeremiah in the time of end of Jerusalem
He had Elijah when israel was filled with many false prophets,
Acts 20:25–31 NKJV
25 “And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more. 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. 28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.
The Apostle Pauls warning was revealing in that to preserve oneself from going astray you must discern th voice of the prophet.
Hosea 12:13 “13 By a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet he was preserved.”
Jehosophat as an example
2 Chronicles 17:3–6 NKJV
3 Now the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David; he did not seek the Baals, 4 but sought the God of his father, and walked in His commandments and not according to the acts of Israel. 5 Therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave presents to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and honor in abundance. 6 And his heart took delight in the ways of the Lord; moreover he removed the high places and wooden images from Judah.
2 Chronicles 18:1-34.
2 Chronicles 19:1-3.
2 Chronicles 20:20 (NKJV)
20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.
To be established and propser in the will of God you must know God and you must know the voice of God’s prophets.
