AG:
Time is at once the most valuable and the most perishable of all our possessions. —John Randolph, quoted by William Cabell Bruce in John Randolph of Roanoke
John Randolph
TS: In Eph 5, we are instructed to redeem the time. Paul teaches that I time is limited and we must make the most of it by using it for God.
RS: Our families need to apply this lesson well. We have a limited amount of time so we must make the best of what time we have.

Watch Your Walk

Ephesians 5:15 NKJV
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,
Be careful how you live
To live morally is to live wisely
To live in sin is to live foolishly
Paul’s immediate context dealt with this very thing
eph 5:1-2
Ephesians 5:1–2 NKJV
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
There should be a difference between children of GOD and wordly people
wise- imitate God and walk in love
Ephesians 5:4–7 NKJV
neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.
foolish-
They live in abominable deeds of Sin
Paul lists a set of sins ranging from fornication to coarse jokes.
Psalm 14:1 NKJV
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.
They begin with unbelief and carry it out through godless thoughts, words and deeds.
The live apart from God and against His Law
Proverbs 1:7 NKJV
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
The sins don’ t cause believers to loose their salvation, true believers won’t wallow in their sins and celebrate them.
Believers should live godly lives that demonstrate Christ to the world
We should live as Jesus lived so others will see Jesus in us.
He lived for the Father’s glory
He glorified GOD through all He did
He gave praise to the Father
He submitted to the Father
He proclaimed the Father
He lived to do the Fathers will
Jesus obeyed God in all things
He willingly carried out the Father’s will and lived by the Scriptures without fail
He lived to seek and to save the lost
Luke 19:10 NKJV
for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
His mission was the same as ours!
To us, He gave the Great Commission:
Matthew 28:19–20 NKJV
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
AP: Our families should model and value lives lived wisely
We have an obligation to teach our children to walk as Christ did
We should actively seek their salvation.
proclaim and live the gospel
We should actively disciple them
Guide them to walk wisely in a manner which pleases God and to reject sin
We should lead them in worship and glorifying God

Make the Most of Your Time

Ephesians 5:16 NKJV
redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
The Greek word for time denotes a fixed, measured, allocated season. A timer if you will
We have a limited number of days to live on Earth
James 4:14 NKJV
whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
We have far fewer days to disciple our children
Yes, we have influence throughout our lives with them, but the years to teach them Biblical values while they are under our authority are limited.
From the moment our children are born, our aim should be launching them into the world as disciples of Christ who are able to take on the challenges of adult life from a godly perspective.
That deadline approaches as they near 18 and high school graduation.
SO many young adults who haven’t been grounded in the faith fail in their walk with Christ as soon as they move out and get bombarded with an ungodly world view
Therefore, we must make the most of our time!
I think that is why God gave these instructions in Deut 6.
Deuteronomy 6:6–9 NKJV
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Every day is filled with numerous opportunities to teach God’s word to our families.
We should use our time of influence wisely!
The world is evil and works directly against our family.
It is filled with foolish people who have rejected GOD
some are called professors
Others are managers
The world wants to tear down our families.
In fact, there is a movement to “deconstruct the nuclear family”
They want to destroy what God intended for families.
They try to make US look like we are doing things the wrong way to have a loving mother and father discipling their children to walk in the way of God.
School is not our ally in the vast majority of cases
Even at a Christian School, parents have the primary responsibility
God created the family as the first institution and made it the foundation of all other relationships.
The world directly opposes the Word of God and the godly influence we are trying to have on our children.

Conclusion:

Watch your walk
make the most of your time
