1 Samuel 1:9–11 NKJV
9 So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”
1 Samuel 1:20 NKJV
20 So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord.”
1 Samuel 1:24–25 NKJV
24 Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord in Shiloh. And the child was young. 25 Then they slaughtered a bull, and brought the child to Eli.
1 Samuel 1:26–27 NKJV
26 And she said, “O my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the Lord. 27 For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.
1 Samuel 1:28 NKJV
28 Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord.” So they worshiped the Lord there.
1 Samuel 2:1–2 NKJV
1 And Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord. I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. 2 “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.
1 Samuel 2:17–19 NKJV
17 Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord, for men abhorred the offering of the Lord. 18 But Samuel ministered before the Lord, even as a child, wearing a linen ephod. 19 Moreover his mother used to make him a little robe, and bring it to him year by year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
1 Samuel 2:20 NKJV
20 And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, “The Lord give you descendants from this woman for the loan that was given to the Lord.” Then they would go to their own home.
1 Samuel 2:21 NKJV
21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the Lord.
Today we celebrate Mother’s Day.
A day for all women of God - you can berth spiritual sons and daughters - children of faith. by your faith, love and influence.
My prayer is that the Lord imparts upon the women of our church a vision of a spiritual heritage — a line of faith through the bloodline of Jesus
The bloodline of Jesus - A Spiritual Heritage that will last until the coming of the Lord Jesus.
Title: A Woman’s Journey of Faith
The story of Hannah - not often told
Hannah’s story was one of:
Hope through adversity.
Offering to God in response to His blessing.
A Genuine Sacrifice of Praise
4. Raising up Godly Offspring
5. Spiritual Multiplication
Hannah’s was a story of:
Hope through adversity.
Her story of barrenness and insults from Penninah.(like the enemy that rubs in)
Pray to the Lord through the adversity you are facing. Block the voices of the enemy.
Key is perseverance. Hannah persevered in prayer. And this led to hope.
Romans 5:3 NKJV
3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
Romans 5:4 NKJV
4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Hannah was not only sad, she was bitter...
1 Samuel 1:10 NKJV
10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish.
But she sought the Lord. She responded the right way.
Let the Lord turn your bitterness around through the sweetness of His presence.
Hannah was a woman of prayer.
James 5:16b NLT
“… the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
A miracle happened! The Lord answered her prayer and her son Samuel was born.
Hannah’s was a story of:
Offering to God in response to His blessing.
1 Samuel 1:20 NKJV
20 So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord.”
The name she gave her son:
Samuel - “God has heard”
Hannah did something remarkable.
She honored the Lord by the name she gave her son. It is not our asking but about God hearing.
She offered back the child she prayed for to the Lord. She remembered God...
She made a vow:
1 Samuel 1:11 NKJV
11 Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”
And she kept her vow:
1 Samuel 1:28 NKJV
28 Therefore I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord.” So they worshiped the Lord there.
Are vows ok? Can we still make vows to the Lord?
The Bible talks about keeping vows and oaths. Vows are not wrong as long as you keep your vows, you mean your vows (Matthew 5:33-37) where Jesus said let your yes be yes and your no be no, and you are not rash or impulsive with your vows.
There’s a bigger lesson here: that children are from the Lord and they belong to Him.
Train your children to love the Lord.
Do not hold them back from serving.
Question: to all parents: What is your dream for your children?
Hannah’s was a story of:
3. A Genuine Sacrifice of Praise
There was no walking back, changing of mind, no misgivings about what she has done, Hannah wholeheartedly gave her all to God and gave her most precious child to God.
The fruit of her lips when she gave her son to God for service.
If we have given ourselves to God, we can give Him everything. We will not withhold anything from Him.
Talk about praise. Is a natural response of the people of God:
Psalm 33:1 NKJV
1 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful.
We imitate God: Because He does not withhold any good thing from us.
Psalm 84:11 NKJV
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.
Ultimately God gave the One that was most precious to Him. His Son Jesus Christ.
Questions:
a. Is your life wholly given to God?
b. What are you withholding from the Lord?
Hannah’s was a story of:
4. Raising up Godly Offspring
We can all be spiritual parents
Protect your children: Guard their minds, protect them from ungodly influences
Talk of school curriculum - Sex education, now more blatant with gender reassignment
Participate in school board meetings
Engage your child in a loving way if they are already caught up in these lies
Ephesians 6:4 NKJV
4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
PRAY FOR YOUR CHILDREN - ultimately it is God Who protects our children.
Talk of how God protected Samuel from corruption of Eli’s sons.
Let us raise a generation of Samuels, of Daniels who will not be defiled by the evil in their generation.
Hannah’s was a story of:
5. Spiritual Multiplication.
1 Samuel 2:20–21 NKJV
20 And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, “The Lord give you descendants from this woman for the loan that was given to the Lord.” Then they would go to their own home. 21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the Lord.
God multiplies what we have freely given to Him for His work.
Pray that God allows you to berth spiritual descendants, a godly line of faith.
Because What God gave Hannah was more than just physical children but more than that a spiritual heritage.
Samuel became the last judge of Israel and a mighty prophet before God.
And he was the one who anointed the greatest king of Israel - the man after God’s own heart - King David
The Kingly line from where the Messiah the Lord Jesus comes from:
Isaiah 9:7 NKJV
7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Pray that our story will be one of:
Hope through adversity.
Offering to God in response to His blessing.
A Genuine Sacrifice of Praise
4. Raising up Godly Offspring
5. Spiritual Multiplication
Thank the moms, my prayer is that you all draw this kind satisfaction of satisfaction as stated by the Apostle John:
3 John 4 NKJV
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
