PROVERBS 31:10-31
PROVERBS 31:10-31
In today’s society we as a generation and a country have lost sight about what a woman is.
The feminist movement was never about women’s rights or equality or we would not be having biological males competing as woman
The feminist movement has always been about disrupting and destroying the image of God - Genesis 1:27 - So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
Genesis 2:24 - Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Today we will look at 1/2 of the image of God - and then go deeper and talk about what are the characteristics of a Godly mom, wife, woman.
Let’s Pray
The Christian Wife
Proverbs 31:10–31
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands, she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
“If you can find a truly good wife, she is worth more than precious gems!” A man may be the head of the home, but the wife is the heart. A wife can help her husband by standing by him and encouraging him. Some wives are so busy trying to make a good man out of their husband that they have no time to be a good wife.
I. A CHRISTIAN WIFE HAS CHRISTIAN MATURITY
A. Her attitude — v11 – The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.
Ephesians 5:22 – “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.”
Titus 2:4-5 – And so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

B. Her actions — v12-22 – She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.
She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar.
She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.
She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
1 Timothy 3:11 – “Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things.”
C. Her acceptance – v23 – Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.
Ephesians 5:23 – For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.
Ephesians 5:25-26 – Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
II. A CHRISTIAN WIFE HAS CHRISTIAN MODESTY
A. Life of respect – v25 – Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.
1 Peter 3:1-2 – Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct.
1 Peter 3:7 – Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
B. Life of restraint— v26 – 28 – She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
1 Timothy 2:9 – “likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.
1 Peter 3:3-4 – Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
Proverbs 11:22 – Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.
C. Life of righteousness – v29-30 – “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
1 Samuel 1:5–28 –
Hannah’s dedication to the Lord has a great impact on her son, Samuel.
A Christian wife does not draw attention to herself. She dresses to please the Lord. Her husband and family are first. She sacrifices her time, life, and energy for others.
III. A CHRISTIAN WIFE HAS CHRISTIAN MANNERS
A. Her conversation— Proverbs 21:19 – “Better to live in the desert than with a quarrelsome, fretful woman”
Proverbs 10:19 – When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.
Proverbs 20:19 – Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler.
Psalm 19:14 – Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
B. Her character Proverbs 11:16 – The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the treacherous are taken captive by their lust.
A good woman lives a good life and has good character.
Proverbs 12:4 – An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.
Romans 12:2 – Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Titus 2:7-8 – Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
Proverbs 11:3 – The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.
C. Her control – Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
The fruits of the Spirit are evident in her daily life.
2 Timothy 1:7 – For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Proverbs 16:32 – Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
A dedicated Christian wife and mom has a great impact on her husband, her children, and into the world itself. A wife who rebels against her husband rebels against God. There cannot be happiness in a home where the wife/mom does not follow God’s plan for her life.
