The Sign of the Covenant

B. Blameless, a definition here:

Psalm 119:1 ESV

1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord!

C. Blameless is walking with the Lord

D. The promise of blessing vs. 2

Multiply you Greatly

A. A theme! Chapters 12:2, 13:16, 22:17. These talk of the promise of making Abram a great nation.

B. Great and mighty things will come from Abrahams offspring.

Name Change!

A. Abraham = Father of Multitudes

B. Kings will come, Lands will come, the covenant will stand, and circumcision.

I Will!

A. God says what He will do! vs. 2-8

A Sign in the Flesh

A. Vs 9-14 Circumcision is a fleshly sign of the covenant between Abraham and God. Generation to generation.

B. A personal, physical reminder

Sarai to Sarah

A. Vs 15-22 God gives Abraham His plan.

B. Abraham falls to his face in laughter! This is different than the reverence he fell down to before!

C. Abraham asked he be blessed through Ishmael.

Genesis 17:18 ESV

18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

D. Ishmael = God Hears, but the covenant is through Sarah and Abraham.
