Evangelism Is Not
Evangelism Is Not
Evangelism is not being nice
Evangelism is not doing good
Evangelism does not require you to earn the right to speak
If you believe Jesus died on the cross for people, then he already earned the right for you to speak!
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?”
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
God’s Process of Salvation
God’s Process of Salvation
This is the process of salvation from man’s view
God Sends
We Preach
What does it mean to preach:
In the NT there word for preach is kerysso
It means to herald, proclaim
Especially refers to divine truth
It is not religious discourse to a closed group of initiates, but open and public proclamation of God’s redemptive activity in and through Jesus Christ. The current popular understanding of preaching as biblical exposition and exhortation has tended to obscure its basic meaning
In the NT, preaching is ‘the public proclamation of Christianity to the non-Christian world’ (C. H. Dodd, The Apostolic Preaching and its Development, 1944, p. 7).
It is not religious discourse to a closed group of initiates, but open and public proclamation of God’s redemptive activity in and through Jesus Christ. The current popular understanding of preaching as biblical exposition and exhortation has tended to obscure its basic meaning
There is a difference between teaching and preaching. Teaching is to educate and equip the saints, preaching is to declare Christs death to the lost.
We can, and should, both teach ad preach to the lost. They need both. But even our teaching to the lost should be laced with the Gospel.
They Hear
They Believe
They Call
In the Old Testament, calling on the name of the Lord was a metaphor for worship and prayer 11 Kenneth Boa and William Kruidenier, Romans, vol. 6, Holman New Testament Commentary (Nashville, TN: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 2000), 314.
They are Saved
The Importance of Preaching
The Importance of Preaching
Paul outlines for the believers in Rome how God saves people. It is not through the evidence of his handiwork in creation (Rom. 1:20). It is not through works or the law (Rom. 9:32). Rather, it is through the preaching of the gospel. Kenneth Boa and William Kruidenier, Romans, vol. 6, Holman New Testament Commentary (Nashville, TN: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 2000), 314.
It is amazing to me that with all of God’s power he chooses to work with us
It is important to us
There is a selfish reason
16 For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!
16 And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me: 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 18 If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul. 20 Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, but his blood I will require at your hand. 21 But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.”
There is a benefit
7 How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of him who brings good news,
who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,
who publishes salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
8 The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice;
together they sing for joy;
for eye to eye they see
the return of the Lord to Zion.
There is an excitement to sharing the gospel
It reassures our faith
It refreshes our spirit
It is important to them
It is God’s chosen way for people to come to faith
