My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? — Mt 27:46

God never intended us to be lonely.

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. — Deut 31:8a

What is loneliness?

  • Loneliness us the distressing feeling of disconnection, being out of contact, and a loss of intimacy or belonging, which results in feelings of abandonment, rejection, being unwanted.

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. — Isa 41:10

God sets the lonely in families —Psa 68:6

Pray continually. — 1 The 5:17

IV. Pray For and With The Lonely

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is every wasted.“ — Aesop

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. — Mt 28:20

Praying for and with the lonely is an active invitation for God to intervene in their lives and ours.

Prayers encourage us to engage in genuine, faith-based relationships.

V. Offer Connection

So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. — Rom 12:5

We are to demonstrate love, acceptance, and genuine friendship to those who feel lonely.

VI. Remind Them of Their Worth

For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. — Eph 2:10

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. — Psa 139:13-14

===

VII. Treat Them with Respect and Dignity

"for every person I meet or work with, I imagine a sign hanging around their neck saying 'Please make me feel important.'" — Mark Kay Ash

And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' — Mt 22:39

"At the end of the day, people remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel." — Maya Angelou
