Romans 5:1–11 CSB
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, 4 endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. 5 This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. 6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. 8 But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 How much more then, since we have now been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from wrath. 10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11 And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.

HOPE/BENEFITS FOR NOW
I. We Have Peace with God
Therefore connects the previous statements of Paul to his coming statements. It has been made very clear to us that no one is capable of standing before a holy God in our own righteousness. It does not matter what you have nor where you come from. No man is perfect and our works do not qualify us, they may reveal things about us but they do not qualify us.
There is a tension here concerning the idea of having peace with God.
theological: in right relationship with Him (still flowing from the previous verses)
ethical: let us live as people who have peace with God (looking forward)
I believe that there is enough here for these two to be intertwined. Because we have been made right with God we can live and navigate this world as people who have an awareness of their peace with God.
Peace is a human desire that all people want to experience. Imagine right now all the things that disrupt your peace! This ranges from big things to small things. However, there is a common denominator: sin (Adam’s broken relationship/peace with God, Eve, and nature).
II. We Have Access to God
The idea here is that we have been given access and we have continual access to the grace of God. How? Through Him by faith. What we know about God (theology) ought to flow into how we live and think about life.
Look at the movements of the text. From guilty to justified. From enemies to peace. From outside to access. And now the movement stops: We STAND in this grace.
APPLICATION:
It is because of the blood of Jesus that we, who were far from God (He was not far from us), have been brought near to Him and have continual access to Him. This flows into every area of our lives. Remember that what we believe about God ought to shape and inform our lives.
Ephesians 2:13 CSB
13 But now in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
We rejoice/boast in affliction.
James 1:2–4 CSB
2 Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.
Romans 5:3–4 CSB
3 And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, 4 endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope.
Our hope is different than the world’s hope.
Romans (1) Peace and Hope (5:1–8)

The believers’ joy is not simply something they hope to experience in the future but a present reality even in times of trials and distress. Their joy is not a stoic determination to make the best out of a bad situation. Christian suffering is a source of joy because its purpose is to build character in the believer

(We don't boast in the flesh but we can boast in the hope of the glory.
our perspective and our praise changes because of our possession by Him)
HOPE/BENEFITS FOR THE FUTURE
Romans 5:6–7 CSB
6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die.
Romans 5:8 CSB
8 But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:9–11 CSB
9 How much more then, since we have now been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from wrath. 10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11 And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.
