Who is Jesus?

adulterous woman.
I do not condemn you either, Go. From now on sin no more.
John 8:12 NASB95
12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
Who are you?
Shane Timmons.
The Gospel of John is a revelation of who Jesus was, is and is to come.
John 1:1–5 NASB95
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
As more of who Jesus is revealed, or we are reminded of, we are able to have a more intimate relationship with him.
In the book of John, there are seven separate I AM statements about Jesus.
We have already seen:
John 6:35 NASB95
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
In the coming weeks we will cover in detail:
John 10:7 NASB95
7 So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
John 10:9 NASB95
9 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
John 10:11 NASB95
11 “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
John 11:25 NASB95
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
John 15:1 NASB95
1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
John 15:5 NASB95
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Focus on:
Light of the world
But as soon as Jesus finishes his sentence, the Pharisees immediately try to impugn him.
John 8:13 NASB95
13 So the Pharisees said to Him, “You are testifying about Yourself; Your testimony is not true.”
John 8:14–18 NASB95
14 Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 “You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone. 16 “But even if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone in it, but I and the Father who sent Me. 17 “Even in your law it has been written that the testimony of two men is true. 18 “I am He who testifies about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.”
Who’s your daddy?
John 8:19 NASB95
19 So they were saying to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.”
John 8:23–24 NASB95
23 And He was saying to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. 24 “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
John 8:28–30 NASB95
28 So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me. 29 “And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” 30 As He spoke these things, many came to believe in Him.
Big Switch here!
John 8:31–32 NASB95
31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
What does that mean?
What does that have to do with being light?
John 8:12 NASB95
12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
Imagine we cover your eyes with a blindfold.
Go outside, get on your bike, leave the parking lot and head toward Johnson Ave.
You are going to die in your darkness.
You can’t measure darkness.
Darkness isn’t even a thing.....Darkness is only an absence of Light.
Non-believers are walking in the darkness. They don’t have the option to take off the blindfold.
They either hate the darkness and seek out the light, which is His desire:
Acts 17:27 NASB95
27 that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
or they learn to live in the darkness.
And we, who are followers of Christ, or claim to be, look at the blind and mock them, or judge them, or
try to shove them toward the light by bashing them over the head with a bible.
Our response
Come along side them, love them, take their hand and gently lead them toward the light.
Matthew 5:14 NASB95
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
Matthew 5:16 NASB95
16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
