Exodus 2:1–4 KJV 1900
1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. 3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink. 4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
Today as we celebrate and Honor Mothers. It seems good by the Holy Ghost to speak on a mother in the Bible that get very little recognition. In fact very few believer even know her name. I must admit her name escaped my memory even though I studied and meditated on the Bible for years.
This woman raised three children during one the most difficult and treacherous time in history for the nation of Isreal ( Her children were Miriam, Aaron, and Moses.
I have a gift for anyone ( except my wife, she knows the answer.) for any one that knows this mother’s name?
Her name is, Jochebed – The A Mother full Faith and Courage!
Before we talk more about this amazing woman, mother, and servant of God.
Last talk about the time and culture she lived in.
There was a change in leadership
Exodus 1:8–10 KJV 1900
8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. 9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: 10 Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
As a twenty year military vet one of the most challenging thing I face was a change in leadership about every three to four years. I seemed like I have to prove myself over again to the new leadership at my new duty station.
This is what happen to the people of Isreal. They had a new King that did not know Joseph
the one who help save there land from calamity, famine, and destruction.
The one who caused favor to be upon the land.
Whenever there is a change in leadership that is not aware of your contributions, goodwill, and character,- Watch out and trust God
Whenever leadership is insecure and self-serving - Watch out and trust God
Whenever leadership fails to see the most marginal and vulnerable people as valuable and worthy of respect and care.- watch out and trust God
When ever others as leadership sees a group of people as a threat without credible evidence or provocation- Watch out and trust God
The New King made it hard on the Israelites.
Afflicted them with heavy burdens.
Exodus 1:11–14 KJV 1900
11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. 13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour: 14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
The afflictions meant to cause them not produce, multiply but they multiplied and produced more.
The afflictions you are going through cannot stop the deliverance and destiny God has for you!!!!
Psalm 34:19 KJV 1900
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
The king ordered the midwives to kill the male babies during birth.
Exodus 1:15–21 KJV 1900
15 And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: 16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. 18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? 19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. 20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
The King plan failed because of women that fear God more than the King. Thank God for the midwives Shiprah and Puah. We need people that value the lives of babies; even those that are unborn.
The third strategy of Pharaoh was have all his military to cast every male child in the river.
Exodus 1:22 KJV 1900
22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
It was under these horrific circumstances that Jochebed had Moses.
She had Faith and Courage despite of fear and Turmoil.
Hebrews 11:23 KJV 1900
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
She could easily gave in to the status quo
She could have allow her to be and justified that it was the law or that at least I have another male child.
I imagine that every that she hid him she feared for her life. Courage does not cause fear to go away.
Courage just says regardless of the fear i am going do it anyway.
You can courage and be shaking in your boots.
You have courage and feel like you are going to have a neverous.
Courage keep you looking the big picture.
Courage help see the the end results despite of the present pain.
We must have the courage to do what right in God’s sight regardless of the culture, peer pressure, or unjust laws.
2. She saw had a revelation of Moses purpose, future, and destiny.
The Lord want each of mother no matter whether, your child is young, old, doing well, or struggling with issues, habits, relationship. No matter if that are incarcerated, on the streets, homeless, in college, in the military. Hold on to God’s promise for your child in Psalm 112:2-4
Psalm 112:2–4 KJV 1900
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: The generation of the upright shall be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: And his righteousness endureth for ever. 4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
Isaiah 44:3 KJV 1900
3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, And floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, And my blessing upon thine offspring:
Isaiah 59:21 KJV 1900
21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, And my words which I have put in thy mouth, Shall not depart out of thy mouth, Nor out of the mouth of thy seed, Nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the Lord, From henceforth and for ever.
Remember God has the final say so for our children. Do be afraid to speak the word over them.
I magine during those three month Jochebed spoke the WORD and stood on the promises that were revealed to her.
Thank for the faith of Jochebed. I pray the God imparts that faith on each mother, father, foster parent, and spiritual parent in this church.
She was strategic and planned how she was going to save her son.
Matthew 10:16 KJV 1900
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
Be ready for the wiles of the devil.
She was willing to let her so go!
There is time we must let go and let God.
We must walk by faith and not by sight.
She allowed Moses to float down the same rive so many children where killed and drown.
The alligators ignored to sound of a crying baby in the homemade ark.
The baby was in God’s hand.
I remember a older woman that heard all kind of bad things about her children, after raising them in the church. She loss countless night of sleep, health started detoriating becuase of the worry, concern, and distress she had for her wayward children.
She went to alter to pray one day and she heard the Holy Spirit leave your child at the altar and stand on my promises.
From then on whenever a bad though came to her about her children she said my children are on the altar.
We need to cast our cares about our children, our adult church on God and leave them at the altar for for to help them.
Tess and I believing for our children to fully surender to God and to walk in therir purpose. Keep walking by faith.
Last but not least remember Jochebed had to have faith for Moses throughout their.
Not sure if she lived long enough but see saw Moses when he raised by Phorah daughter with the best life had to offering.
She may have seen Moses when he was a fugative after murdering someone.
She may have seen Moses as lead God’s people out of Egpty.
God worked it out for Moses and sibling good. Perhaps because they had a praying mother that was full of faith.
I am glad my mother prayed for me.
Perhaps you were not the best mother, perhaps you going through so many issues that you had to allow other to rise your children, perhap yopu were or now incarated, menatally unealthy.
If you can her mind voice it not to late. God still has plan for you and your children God is able to restore and bring you out.
Romans 8:28 KJV 1900
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
All you have to repent, honor, and love Him. He will work it full you.
