This morning, hopefully all of you remembered it is mother’s day. It is the day we set aside to honor our moms, but just like birthdays, valentines days, father’s days if this is the only time you honor your mother something is inherently wrong. As this is my first mother’s day without my stepmom it brings out new perspective. It’s my job to honor her memory in the lives of my kids. So that they know how great their nana was. It is all to easy to take our mothers and our wives for granted. I love the skit guys video because it gives a glimps into the minds of mothers.
They see things differently. When God created man and women he gave them each a part of himself to share with the world. Women and the attributes of women show a special and caring portion of God’s character.
Proverbs 31:31 ESV
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
When I look at this verse I have to remind myself who is typically at the gates in Israel-Older men. Products of mothers. Everyone at the gate at that time would have been a product of their mother’s raising. Mother’s are unique
I have found and I am a product that can tell you that there is nothing like
A Mother’s Prayer
The dawn of the great new movements of God repeatedly occurs in women’s spaces.
--Alastair Roberts.
Sarah prayed for Isaac
Rebekah for Jacob
Rachel for Joseph
Ruth for Obed
Elizabeth for John
Eunice for Timothy
Mary for Jesus
My mother for me.
In 1 Samuel the verses display the power of a praying mother. Hannah was a barren women like Sarah, but unlike Sarah she turned to God instead of natural remedies.
1 Samuel 1:11 ESV
11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”
Hannah prayed and God gave her Samuel who would establish Israel’s kingdom. a praying mom can move mountains.
2. A Mother’s Love
1 John 4:19 ESV
19 We love because he first loved us.
You can see the differences in God’s personality when it comes to love by looking at the difference between mother’s and fathers. I deeply love my children, but affection and tenderness isn’t my strong suit. My wife, the mother to my kids, has a tender love. She kisses booboos. I get a knife to cut off the injured part.
I check them over to make sure nothing is broken and send them on their way. She hugs and kisses. Gets the bandaids and tends to their needs. I make them dinner and if they don’t like it they don’t eat. My wife makes dinner with their desires in mind.
My wifes puts their needs in front of hers drinking cold coffee and often getting her breakfast stolen. A Mother’s love knows no bounds.
3. A Mother’s Connection
1 Kings 3:26 (NKJV)
26 Then the woman whose son was living spoke to the king, for the bowels of the women yearned for her son.
This is a recount of the two women who argued over one alive son. The real mother , not desiring her son to be cut in two gave him over to the other women. The judge ruled in the mother’s favor.
The word bowel here translated to womb. I can’t for for my kids from the depth of my womb. There is a connection made between child and mother while the child is in the womb. Because of that connection mother’s make sacrifices that I cannot imagine.
Mother’s have a way of knowing their child’s cry, laughter, and hurt.
This week we must be thankful for our mothers. Take some time this weeks for your mother. Appriciate your mother. Love your mother.
