Teens
Ask: How many teens on average do you think struggle with anxiety and depression?
According to the World Health Organization, one in seven 10-19 year-olds (14%) struggle with some form of mental disorder, of which depression and anxiety are at the top of the list.
Relevant for those who struggle and those who don’t

1 Kings 19:1–2 (ESV)
1 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.”
Explanation:
Context: 450 prophets defeated
Ahab doesn’t repent (disappointment)
Ahab’s message to Jezebel
Jezebel’s message to Elijah
Opposite of what Elijah wanted
Not repentance; rage!

3 Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
Explanation:

What specific action does Elijah take here?
Leaves servant, is alone.

What is the first thing that Elijah does after he gets alone?
Prays God would kill him!

5 And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” 6 And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again. 7 And the angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.” 8 And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God. 9 There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Explanation:
In this passage, how does God provide for Elijah?

Traveling… a lot.
In verse 3: Mount Carmel to Beersheba, about 120 miles.
Further into wilderness for an entire cay
About 300 miles altogether!
No wonder passes out
No wonder that depressed
Hard to think rationally when exhausted/hungry.
Do you guys think that most teens these days are exhausted? Why or why not?
School is exhausting

Matthew 11:28–30 ESV
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Rest to exhausted souls = rest to mind and emotions!
Forgiveness of sins = relaxing

Who knows what sleep apnea is?
A condition where you don’t breath properly when you are sleeping
But it does make it hard for me to sleep well, which makes me tired, which makes me less able to effectively deal with mental health stuff
