Jesus instituted a new covenant at great cost to Himself?
I. He took Humanity upon Himself
Took (lambanō) (verb) = take hold of, grab, grasp. To receive. The subject of the verb is Bread!
John 6:32-33 “Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. “For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”” John 6:35 “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.” John 6:48 ““I am the bread of life.” John 6:51 ““I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.””
A. Jesus the Preexistence God
Creator
Sustainer
Protector - The Angel of The Lord who fights for us! Red sea, Jericho etc
B. Jesus the Man
He came to reveal God to us
John 1:18 “No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.” John 14:7-11 ““If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.” Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.”
The only way a man can see God is to know Jesus, we know Him through faith and the studying of His word!
2. To fulfill God’s Righteousness for us
3. To provide an example for our lives. He is the overcomer of sin and His example serves as a model as to how we can overcome sinning.
1 John 2:6
II. He was broken on the cross
Again in Verse 25, the verb took is used. He took (lambanō) the cup. Symbolizes the Wrath of God (and man?)
III. He gave Himself for us. Died
