This morning we talked about getting more from and getting closer to God. One of the biggest hurdles I have found in people getting more from God is understanding the difference between the omni presence and the manifest presence of God.
GJ Chestertain states
Christianity hasn’t been found tried and wanting but rather difficult and left untried
As Pentecostal Assembly of God believers we believe the Spirit of God is everywhere all the time.
Jeremiah 23:24 ESV
24 Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.
Acts 17:27 ESV
27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us,
Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)
Hebrews 13:5 ESV
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
So how do we reconcile that with verses like
Matthew 18:20 ESV
20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
So if the Spirit of God is everywhere how does he only show up when 2-3 are gathered?
In situations like this 1 of 2 things become true
The bible is wrong and needs to be fixed
My understanding is wrong and needs to be fixed.
So we know the bible isn’t wrong so it leave us with one question:
How can both be true at the same time?
You have the omni presence and the manifest presence of God.
so let me explain: If You didn’t know I was coming today and no one showed you a picture of me I could walk in here virtually undetected. Someone mentions that you have a interviewing pastor here today. So you know I am here in your presence you just don’t see evidence of me. Now when so and so gets up puts my picture on the screen and tells you about me. Well now my presence is known. I’ve always been here. Onmi presence. But now I am making myself known-Manifest present.
First I want tell you the best way to get the presence and to increase his presence then I want to tell you why it’s important
There are 6 things we need to press into in our relationship with God to increase the power of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives Which are the 5 attributes Christ displayed while on Earth.
Solitude
We must make alone time with God. The intention withdraw from social situations
Mark 1:35 ESV
35 And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.
solitude is not a place to live, but it is a place of encounter
it’s not about being quiet it’s about being with God
2. Silence
Psalm 46:10 ESV
10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
In order for true communication to happen we must give space where God can speak.
1 Kings 19:13 ESV
And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
There was a fire and an earthquake, a powerful wind but after that was a whisper why a whisper because God was close and wanted Elijah’s attention often times God whispers waiting to see who is silent and desires to hear from him
3. Prayer
Luke 6:12 ESV
12 In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
prayer is an interchange of love between a father and his child It a conversation
experiencing true prayer is experiencing the fullness of relationship with God
4. Intense Study on God’s word
2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
You cannot be made complete nor equipped for good works if you aren’t studying scripture.
The bible is not a book you can change, but rather a book that changes you.
5. Service to Others
Go back to any of crowds Jesus drew. He always met the physical needs of people he ministered too as well as the Spiritual needs. Because you’ll never convince someone of their need of God if their stomach is growling louder than you proclamations.
6. Repentance.
We will mess up, but God forgives our sins. You cannot operate in the manifest power of the Holy Spirit with sin in your heart.
These 6 principles I have based my entire life around because I still believe God is in the business of Spiritual outpouring
you can’t live Jesus’ highlight reel with out living his life out behind the scenes. Jesus’s Miracles came because he spent time alone with God in silence, solitude, prayer, word study service to others and repentance
a star performer chooses a lifestyle in accordance with his talent. Not just a behavior on the field.
‘’the chrisritian problem for living Christ like isn’t a problem of trying it’s a problem of teaching and living these true Christian’s disciplines
