It is well with my soul
Psalm 119:65–72 NKJV
65 You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to Your word. 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word. 68 You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes. 69 The proud have forged a lie against me, But I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart. 70 Their heart is as fat as grease, But I delight in Your law. 71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes. 72 The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of coins of gold and silver.
VS 65

65 You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to Your word.
1. Even when things are wrong, it is well. That should sum things up for us as believers.

V S 66
Psalm 119:66 NKJV
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments.
Teach: 8 times in PS 119
1. It is a good times to teach, when we believe a person we are willing to listen to what they have to say.
a. The character of a teacher adds strength to their instructions.
b. The writer here knowing God’s word to be reliable, he want that conviction to be translated into action in his life. “Teach me good judgment and knowledge.
2. When we have a decision to make. Home; work; children; parents; business;
a. We should seek the Lord. “Teach me good judgment and knowledge”
Judgment: Understanding, discernment.
Knowledge: Knowledge.
2. In God’s word we will find the answers.
b. Sending time in prayer we will find answers.
For I have believed thy commandments:
3. In order for us to do as the Lord tells us, we have to believe His word.
VS 67
Psalm 119:67 NKJV
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word.
1. First we see confession here. I went astray: (sin) Ish 53:6
Isaiah 53:6 NKJV
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Before I was afflicted I went astray:
As long as he was left to himself he did as he pleased. But affliction came along and he was brought to his senses. He went astray before he was afflicted. He no longer goes astray.
But I have kept thy word:
The value of affliction: it will bring us to an end of ourselves.
This is what happened to David after his sin.
It will the same for us. Hebrew 12:6
Hebrews 12:6 NKJV
6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”
VS 68
Psalm 119:68 NKJV
68 You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes.
God is holy, and all of His ways are holy. God is love, so love characterizes all He does. God is kind, so kindness marks all His dealings with us.
We cannot blame God blame for the bad things in this world. It is imposable for him to be bad, cruel.
VS 69
Psalm 119:69 NKJV
69 The proud have forged a lie against me, But I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart.
To have you character deliberately smeared is very hurtful.
We mud is thrown it sticks. After time the worst can be brushed off. Even then it often leaves a stain.
Satan is the Father of lies. The sad part is he has plenty of people who are willing to do his dirty work.
Read last part of VS. No matter how bad things got, the attacks, the lies. He would stay true to what God wanted. He would stay true to God’s word.
WHOLE HEART.
VS 70
Psalm 119:70 NKJV
70 Their heart is as fat as grease, But I delight in Your law.
He gives so pretty harsh words about those that were against him.
He describes his enemies as having fat hearts. The heart represents a person’s inner life.
A heart as fat as grease suggest a life larded over with the flesh in a repulsive form.
But I delight in the law:
His enemies had come after him lies and their lust and it was getting worse.
They has been getting in the world, he had been getting in the word.
He refused to become like them. He had God’s word and it was the best protection that he could find.
VS 71
Psalm 119:71 NKJV
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.
1. This is the last thing we think about when it comes to affliction. Saying that our affliction was good.
a. When a believer can find the goodness in affliction, and not rebel against it, that shows great faith, so growth.
b. Any time affliction drives us to God’s word and to our knees that is a good thing.
c. Luke 4 when Jesus was temped.
d. Jesus did this though out His life, he challenged His foes with God’s word.
VS 72
Psalm 119:72 NKJV
72 The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of coins of gold and silver.
1. The things in life are a matter of priorities. In which world do we want to invest in? What world do we want to succeed on?
a. Where is our treasure?
