1 Corinthians 1:4
1 Corinthians 1:4
4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, 5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul starts off by giving thanks that the things he promised would happen to the church concerning giftings, are coming to pass. That through their excepting of Christ, he reveals himself to them. That they continue to be grateful and in awe of GOD.
Do you stand in awe of God and what he’s doin in your life?
Do you stand in awe of God from what He’s done
Or what he’s doing?
He’s going to complete a work in you
If it’s not good yet, he’s not done with the situation
Often times gratefulness is a position of Faith
4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus,
Grace:
Charis or Charisma: a winning quality or attractiveness that invites a favorable reaction, graciousness, attractiveness, charm, winsomeness
It’s a gift given to us not of ourselves
14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
That gift sets us apart
Something about you should stand out, and not for the wrong reason
Grace through through Faith
Are you living a life that’s grateful for the gift of Jesus?
Does your character show gratefulness
Do you habits show gratefulness?
This comes down to stewardship
Is God found in your habits
Is God seen in your giftings?
5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge,
Utterance:
Oratorical ability plus exceptional performance were distinguishing marks in Hellenic society
God was gracing them for the area and for culture that they were living in
They were good at it but it started getting out of hand
Being used for the wrong purpose
Paul prayed for the Same thing for himself later in Ephesians
19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,
What is your spiritual giftings?
Ask for it to be revealed to you
it’s up to you to cultivate it
Find revelation about it
Seek and you’ll find
6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Our testimony is a declaration of the goodness of God!
Thank you Father we come short in no Gift!
We walk in an abundance of Grace
Apokalypsis (Revelation): making fully known, disclosure, revealing of secrets
When you dive in theirs a revelation but you have to be submerged
A lot of people want revelation to be sitting out in plain site
Dive in
17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
Once you understand and are filled
When we truly understand the love that God has for us
When we fully understand what Christ did for us
8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have an immense confidence in Christ that we get to stand blameless on the Day of judgment
Not because of us but because of Him
