Introduction
As we came to our text last within Daniel, I submitted to you that chapter one, verse eight, would be a deciding factor in Daniel’s life.
8 But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.
Daniel purposed in his heart/made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food. He purposed to be obedient to God and God’s law. He trusted God to remain faithful to His promises. Are we trusting God to be faithful by being faithful ourselves. May we forever understand that God honors faithfulness. It would be because of Daniel and his three Hebrew brothers’ faithfulness to God, that God would use them to further His kingdom and reveal His faithfulness.
May we forever remind ourselves of the words of the author of Hebrews...
23 Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;
Focus Passage: Daniel 1:17-21
17 And as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in every kind of literature and expertise; Daniel even understood all kinds of visions and dreams.
18 Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 And the king talked with them, and out of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; so they entered the king’s personal service.
20 As for every matter of expertise and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the soothsayer priests and conjurers who were in all his realm.
21 And Daniel continued until the first year of Cyrus the king.
Outline
Daniel trusted God and it paid off. May we understand that one can never fail by their life and future in the hands of God and trusting Him to take care of it all. Daniel and his friends did just that. They were told eat the king’s food. They were tempted by the world, but God saw them to the other side, because they chose to be faithful. May we purpose in our hearts to remain faithful.
God honors faithfulness
17 And as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in every kind of literature and expertise; Daniel even understood all kinds of visions and dreams.
In a society that does not see the need in faithfulness and commitment, may we be reminded that God demands commitment and faithfulness. He honors commitment and faithfulness.
Daniel’s faithfulness was not in vain
When Daniel purposed in His heart/made up his mind to be faithful to God, it was not just for show. It was not just because. It meant something. It stood for something. He did it not knowing how things would end up, but trusting God to handle it all. That is what faith is all about. God honored his and his friend’s faithfulness.
