Matthew 6:34....Think about it, pray about it, but don’t worry about it......
Matthew 6:34....Think about it, pray about it, but don’t worry about it......
Psalms 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”
(Repeat title).... this message is just not for these 2 young men but for us all in here today.. Matthew 11:15 says, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” these last few verses in Matthew and chapter 6 starting at verse 25 thru 34 deal with anxiety....Holman bible dictionary has anxiety defined as, State of mind wherein one is concerned about something or someone. This state of mind may range from genuine concern to obsessions that originate from a distorted perspective of life. This anxiety can lead to other things as well such as Depression; Foreboding; Insecurity; Pressure; Stress; and Tension. When the load bare down so heavy....TALK....And I pray that you stay with me for just a little and you see why I say, Think about it, pray about it but don’t worry about it.
Fellows, I have sat where you are sitting now. Thinking about the next step can be crazy. As much as we think we are ready to leave the nest, when the time comes, it get nerve racking. You are thinking about things. You have everyone in your ear, asking a million questions and when you don’t answer the questions right away or the way they want you to, they really start talking crazy.
One thing I want you to remember, is this is your life and your future, everyone wants to help and thats great because we always need some help. But you need to be thinking and praying for yourself. You have to make some decisions on own sometimes....TALK.... Next, thing I want you to remember is something I tell my own kids as well as myself. You live or you die by the decisions you make. But how will you react? Hey you are going to succeed and guess what you are going to fail. Do not get the big head and do not stay down. Song writer wrote these words, “we fall down but we get up”....TALK...
As I said I was in your shoes once upon a time. And I was told the same words, pray about it and let God lead you. But I didn’t. Let me briefly tell you my story....TALK....
I said all of that to say I had anxiety, I was upset at times. Arguing with my folks but the whole time God was guiding the way he wanted me to go. Hey, God has a plan for you, Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Some translations use the words plans to prosper. Either way God has a plan to lift you up here on Earth. But we get in our own way by not trusting fully in him and letting our thoughts and fears take over when all we needed to do was think about it, pray about it and not worry about it.
So as we get ready to dive into the text so God’s word can help us today and then as we go baptize you, which will signify the burying of the old you and resurrecting a new you. In others words and I know it is easier said then done at times. All of the anxiety, fear, depression, anger, lets wash it away and the brand new you will know that God gots your back. He is ready to lead you and guide you on this journey we call life. He brought you into this world for a reason and he made a promise to never leave or forsake you. Now all you have to do is think about it, pray about it and not worry about it.
Let’s walk in the text....
Here we are looking at one of the greatest sermons ever preached. Jesus’ sermon on the mount. Chapters 5 thru 7 here in the book of Matthew. The purpose of the this sermon was for the Messiah to teach his disciples. And here in chapter 6 starting at verse 25, Jesus gives us, his disciples of today, a lesson on anxiety.
Once again anxiety is, State of mind wherein one is concerned about something or someone. However as we will see Jesus let’s the disciples know not to give thought about things. No the word Greek word that was translated from the original text for the word thought means to be anxious or to be troubled with.
So what this text will show us is that we are to focus on today and not worry about tomorrow.
Don’t even dwell in the yesterday. Yesterday is gone, we will never get that day back, tomorrow is not promised but let’s rejoice in the day that he has given us. And I tell one thing, If he wakes you up tomorrow, whatever you didn’t get done today, God is giving you another opportunity to get it right.
Let’s look at the text....
Jesus comes out the blocks running in verse 25, Matthew 6:25 ““Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
People that take the bible literally and not realizing that Jesus spoke in parables and used wonderful illustrations to get his point across, have read this text and said wait a minute, we shouldn’t worry about our life, food, or clothes.
That is not what he is saying, listen “You can be as unfaithful to God through care as well as through covetousness.” (Bruce)
Jesus knew that if we put all of our focus on these things, we would put them before God, and as you know , anything you put before the true God, can become your idol god, and He can and will remove them. TALK, PREACH....(seen people buy $200 shoes but wanna give God a $1)
That is why Jesus works it out the way he does in the text.
WORK THE TEXT, VERSES 25 TO 32.....TALK PREACH....
V26, as a true believer we are heirs of God, his children, takes care of his children
V27, only God can add to your life,
V28, God will provide for you, you just to focus on being clothed with the whole armour of God, and covered in the blood.
V31-32, Jesus shows us the difference between believers and non believers,, The non believer is seeking the good life here in the world, they laying up there treasure here on earth and gonna miss out the true treasure called heaven...
Let’s clear this up, I am not saying not to have nice stuff, just don’t put it before God.
Ok, so here we are at our text for today. Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Young men, God’s will you have your whole life ahead of you. Take it day by day. Stop worrying. Most of our worry is over things that we have absolutely no control over anyway, and is therefore foolish as well as harmful.
And let’s remember, worrying is part of the down fall of people., Fear, worry, doubt, unbelief and sin....TALK, PREACH...
CSB Study Bible: Notes Chapter 6
Jesus did not prohibit planning for the future, but he did prohibit worrying about it.
Family, live one day at a time. The believer is not to be preoccupied with tomorrow and its affairs. The believer should be seeking God’s kingdom and His righteousness, leaving tomorrow and its needs in God’s hands.
Look back at verse 33, read....Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
TALK, PREACH......1,God made man a spiritual being and if you are seeking God, this world will not satisfy you, 2, You can have nice things life, first seek God and his kingdom and watch how he adds more unto you and takes that worry away..
I found 5 attitudes about the future, the writer was unknown but he lists them as, a no care worldly attitude, a fretful anxious attitude, a fearful panicky attitude, a self assured attitude and lastly, a calm God centered and trusting attitude.
I am not going into all of them because we will be here awhile but i will tell you the first four, nothing good comes out of them without God but that last one,
Everybody is in your ear, stay calm and trust God, something didn’t go the way you wanted it to go, stay calm and trust God
Matthew Henry states that, By our daily prayers we may procure strength to bear us up under our daily troubles, and to arm us against the temptations that attend them, and then let none of these things move us.
We must remember that He will not put more on us than we can bear. Don’t worry about tomorrow but remember that if He wakes you up, that His mercies are brand new.
Fellows you have some decisions to make, my best advice is to think about it, pray about but please don’t worry about it. Your steps have been ordered by the Lord.
You have already made the best decision of your life, and that was to be baptized and give your life to Christ. No matter what comes your way, remember He has already made a way for you. A way in the world and a way to make heaven your home....TALK, PREACH, CLOSE...
