Our Response

Last week, reality of the resurrection. We concluded that the apostles were eyewitnesses, and that they were telling the truth, that Jesus is alive.
And that has massive implications for us today. In short, the resurrection of Jesus changes everything.
Now the Bible tells us that Jesus is seated next to the Father in heaven. But it also tells us that He’s not just sitting on his laurels waiting for the rapture to come.
Jesus’ mission and ministry continues to this very day. He is working in unison with the Holy Spirit. Together they are busy healing, helping, encouraging, teaching and interceding for us. Jesus has never stopped working for the church. He’s the head, we are the members.
We will look at what Jesus is doing for us. And then we will look at our proper response.
1 Corinthians 15:20 ESV
20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Declared with power to be the son of God - Romans 1:4 “and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,”
1 Corinthians 15:21–22 ESV
21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
Our second Adam - Rom 5:18-19 “Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.”
1 Corinthians 15:23 ESV
23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.
God’s Earnest Money & coming Harvest - firstfruits & pentecost? - Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we have assurance that we too will be raised from the dead
1 Corinthians 15:24 ESV
24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.
Our soon coming King - Rev 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.”
But wait there’s more:
Jesus is:
Our Great High Priest - Heb 9:11-12 “But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.”
Our Intercessor - Rom 8:34 “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.”
So what is our proper response to what Jesus is doing for us?
1 Corinthians 15:30–31 ESV
30 Why are we in danger every hour? 31 I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day!
Endurance - We are in a battle, if we give up, we will lose. Our only option is to persevere. No matter what comes your way, hold fast to Jesus, because He is holding fast to you.
1 Corinthians 15:33 ESV
33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
Don’t be deceived - bad company, bad entertainment. Satan wants to destroy you. Don’t make his job any easier, don’t do his work for him. Hang tight with Jesus instead.
1 Corinthians 15:34 ESV
34 Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
vs 34 - Wake up, stop sinning, apply the knowledge you have. Give it your best effort. The Bible is like coffee for your soul, it quickens our spirit, revitalizes us, gives us the mind of Christ, and helps us to think straight. We need to be students of God’s word.
And most importantly, we need to reciprocate His love, and pay it forward to others
Matt: 22:37-40 “37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.””
Considering all that Jesus has done for us, this is the least we can do.
