The Affect Of Grace In A Good Conscience

1 Timothy 1:18 KJV 1900
18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
1 Timothy 1:19–20 (KJV 1900)
19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
RESPONSIBILITY = What I think about
How I respond
My actions
I’m not responsible to how you respond to me, I am responsible for how I respond to you.
Part of the battle we face is keeping a pure conscience
A fractured conscience gives place to the devil
Mental health and depression
Neurological issues
A pure conscience protects you from mental health issues
VS 19
1 Timothy 1:19 KJV 1900
19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
Shipwreck = they didn’t hold on to faith
They didn’t protect their conscience
1 Timothy 1:20 KJV 1900
20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
They were serving
They were helping
but they began to blaspheme because of a lack of faith and impure conscience
Will you deal with what is going on in your conscience
How does grace relate to your conscience
Grace = Dynamic enabling to do God’s will in any situation.
Temptations
Trials
Hurts
God’s grace is and always will be sufficient for you
A dynamic force to enable you to have victory
Paul explained that the work God gave him to do was not done in his own power, experience, or ability; it was by the grace that God gave him.
1 Corinthians 15:10 (KJV 1900)
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
The apostle Paul didn’t frustrate or refuse the grace of God
Philippians 2:13 KJV 1900
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
If you do God’s will - it’s by His grace
Ephesians 3:7 KJV 1900
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
Effectual = it effects everything inside us
Our past is past because of the grace of God
Hebrews 13:20–21 (KJV 1900)
20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Perfect = you can’t do that on your own
to do his will = continuing in prayer
Continuing in bible study
Continuing in giving
Continuing in service
Grace has appeared to every person.
Titus 2:11 KJV 1900
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
All men = India, Nepal, Myanmar, China, Liberia, Australia
2. Grace is a gift.
Ephesians 2:8–9 KJV 1900
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
This is not just about salvation
It is a continual working of grace
3. Grace received brings more grace.
2 Peter 1:2 KJV 1900
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
Grace vs. Temptation
We are in warfare and the battles in life will not cease until we see the Lord in heaven.
Temptation:
Bitterness
Anger
Alcoholism
Drugs
Envy
Sensuality
Whatever the temptation there is power and grace available to you as a believer to be victorious
Receive God’s grace every time you are tempted
Respond to grace
James 4:6 KJV 1900
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
2 Peter 3:18 KJV 1900
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Respond properly when approached by temptation
4. Pride Resists Grace
Fulfilling Temptation will always leads to defeat
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Hebrews 12:15 KJV 1900
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
Fail = (be deficient): - come behind (short), be destitute, fall, lack, suffer need, (be in) want, be the worse.
Every time God offers me grace and I do not accept that grace I am becoming deficient in grace; becoming lacking
No matter what temptation if you humble yourself God will empower you for victory
How do we fail of the grace of God? Decide you don’t need God.
Did you humble yourself to search God’s Word today?
Did you ask the Lord to humble yourself in prayer
We might not say it by our words but with our actions we say we don’t need His Grace
5. Grace Can Only Be Accepted By The Humble
James 4:6 KJV 1900
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
1 Peter 5:5 KJV 1900
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Humble yourself
Submit yourself
The obedient receive grace
God gives grace as we humble ourselves to ask forgiveness from others and from the Lord.
I’m so angry, I’m so upset
Humility will bring grace
Don’t hold onto anger against others
Don’t hold onto anger against God
When I live with a pure conscience toward God and men, God gives grace in abundance.
Comparing ourselves with others will never clear our conscience.
For example: We have offences and we aren’t fervently loving one another; excited to see each other
We can always find someone that we consider weaker than we think we are; comparing ourselves among ourselves is forbidden.
Justifying our actions because we think are better than someone else.
2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV 1900
12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
When we are getting right with one another
When there is unity of spirit and purpose
When we offend someone or someone offends us and we take care of that by forgiving - We are able to maintain a good conscience and we won’t feel a need to compare ourselves
When we are spending time in the Word, serving, walking in the Spirit, The Lord will show us areas in our mind and offences that need to be cleared.
Do you have something in your heart
We can put on a show with one another for about an hour a service...
When the Holy Spirit brings remembrance to areas of offence, you have the responsibility to take the necessary steps to restore a good conscience.
Acts 24:16 KJV 1900
16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
Resisting grace and humility
Relationships that could have unresolved offences:
God, Father, Mother, Children, Stepfather, Stepmother, Brothers, Sisters, Wife, Husband, Pastor, Student, Teacher, Friend, Neighbor, Employer, Government
Anger, frustration, disobedience, disrespect, bitterness
Humble yourself and
Bitterness against children - they did not perform
Too often we go to make an offence right with someone but the motivation is to show them why they were wrong.
Our responsibility is to take care of the offence that we were responsible for, not to get someone else to see what they did wrong.
What did you do wrong
Well they hurt me; you responded in anger
List the offences towards me.
We will tend to balance guilt with blame and never deal with either one.
When we concentrate on how we’ve been wronged we usually blame others more than ourselves.
By writing down how we have done wrong, we remove a major distraction in dealing with our own offences.
Making right with others
Matthew 5:23–24 KJV 1900
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Matthew 7:3–5 KJV 1900
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
Whatever we have in our eye let’s get rid of it
2. List your offences
It’s easy to minimize our offences and at the same time justify our actions
Ask the Lord to restore your memory to heal your conscience.
The people that frustrate us have been allowed to frustrate us by the Lord.
2Sa 16:5 And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
2Sa 16:6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.
2Sa 16:7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:
2Sa 16:8 The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.
2Sa 16:9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
2Sa 16:10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
2Sa 16:11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.
2Sa 16:12 It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.
2Sa 16:13 And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.
2Sa 16:14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
Psa 139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
If I were to ask those who were offended by me what I did against them, what would they say?
