From Last week: First John 2: 12-14 I am writing… Little children, fathers, young men, children, fathers, young men.
Intro:
The love of God and the love for others produces joy, and evil and hate will make a person miserable, and angry. Enjoying Gods commandments to love Him and love one another, will show that the darkness is passing away. And that Jesus is letting us walk with him in light, and we are not making people sin and stumble, like the people walking in hate and darkness, they don’t even know they are in darkness, and stumble and make others fall. John is encouraging the believers to understand rightly who God is, and what Jesus has done. That their and his joy may be complete. As I have said a few times in this series, our understanding of Who God is will affect how we live. Therefore John is trying to make the people receiving the letter, better understand who God is and what Jesus have done, and how then we in his power can live the life we have been given, and walk in the works God has prepped for us to walk in, with great Joy, as we enjoy who God is…
Let us read: First John 2: 12-14
Little Children – I write to you because your sins are forgiven for Jesus’ name’s sake. The glory of Jesus name, the uplifted name of Jesus Christ, for him what he has done and for his glory that the father also will get glory from the obedience and work of Jesus Christ, this is the story of the incarnation – the coming of God in Christ Jesus, him humbling him self to enter creation that was med by and for him, the infinite rich, worshiped by heavens host, entered the world as a helpless baby, lived a life with no sin, pure, obeyed all the commandments – loved the lord God with all your mind and strength, and your neighbor as yourself. Lived out all his teaching about God, and invited friends and enemies to return to God, and to the end of his life-giving glory and glorifying God in his obedience, laying down his life for all who would come to God, as he did Jesus made a way for us to be restored reconciled, to God, atoning for our sin and rebellion against God and other people. In his death, he defeats sin, takes our sin an makes an offering that cleanses us from sin, cleans us, but there is more, (Jesus dose not stay but he rises to justify us, we might be clean, but now we can stand in the works of Jesus we can stand before God in his name and his works). Sin taken away his righteousness imputed/given to us.
(We need to know that. God can forgive us, not because of our name, but because of what Jesus has done.)
The 2 encouragement to the little children is you know the father, - (That is only possible if the know Jesus, that is the only way to the father). (Because of Jesus work, Jesus makes us know the father there is no other way to the father than Jesus, that said I am the way the truth, there is on other way to the father, John 14:6 PPT
Fathers, - I write because you know Jesus that one from the beginning, the one I saw, heard, touched. The one God mad all things by and for. – note—The eternal one, the word, God, that came and dwelled among us. The same is repeated in verse 14. (Knowing Jesus means everything). They know what he has done, they know he is God, they know that sins can be forgiven, by Jesus’ work, they know,
The young men, Overcome the evil one,
The young men 2 time your strong, because the word of God abides in you, repeat you have overcome the evil one. To overcome the evil one, we have to know that our sins can be forgiven because of Jesus name, and therefore we need to know Jesus the one from the beginning, the one who was with God the one that is God, and have the word of God, and the teaching of Jesus abiding in us, then we can overcome the evil one, he has no power over Jesus.
The What about us?
Well it is the same, we need to know God more and more and more, to know God we need to know Jesus, that the glory of Jesus name (who he is and what he has done), is able to take all our sin away, freely and totally forgiven, then we can come to God, and know him deeply, and rest in being knowen deeply, by God that came after us when we were his enemies in darkness, by Jesus he came and drew us of that in to light, and adopted us in to his family, from children of wrath, to children of God, by the works of Jesus. And only by faith in Jesus. (Then why not come to Jesus, today is the best day, - if you have not do it.. faith and hope in Jesus).
Then we can overcome the evil one, because the evil one has been defeated, by Jesus, that broke our slave changes and imprisonment of the evil one and our sin, and rebellion. To bring us in to light so we can shine as lights in this world and be tokens icons of God’s grace, beckons of the Love of God that we have experienced.
By I don’t feel like that? Well, you are if you are in Jesus in what John would call light? Have you experienced grace? Jesus, taking all upon himself? Has Jesus changed you, who is God, can you paint a picture describe God? Does it look like what John is describing? Or is it more like what you have experienced in life? And not really like who God is? And not really marked or painted with the brush that shows Jesus, his glory, to overcome sin, pain guilt, shame. That so deeply changes us… in to his image, restores what we were created to do, reflect God’s image, and worship and enjoy God.
Worries sin, fear, shame can keep us from, believing the good news about Jesus, where do we need, Jesus to meet us again? Let him cleanse us so we shine brighter, not only for his sake but for us to enjoy and reflect, the one who means all to us? Are we filled with the word of God?
Then it does not matter if your young old, mature immature spiritually, in Christ, what ever place we what matters is who God is and Jesus shows us and John is so trying to let his readers /including us see the glory and beauty of Jesus Christ, that we will come to him and give God all the glory and praise, as the Holy Spiry open our eyes to see who Jesus is.
The your saying it is impossible, yes, it is for the type A, you cant do it. I will love God… Well great, but seek, long for repent of sin, and pray and ask the Lord Jesus, and God will with Joy open your eyes to see Jesus, by the Holy Spirt, opening your eyes. All who would come, God is not poor there is grace for all who would come, and grace to know more and more and more… and it will be completed when Jesus comes back.
Let our hearts rejoice in who Jesus is to the praise of God the father by the Holy Spirt.
