Good Soldiers 2 Timothy 2:1-14

This is the series we will be doing, so right off the bat lets begin by establishing our discussion boundaries tonight and the text that will give us permission to obey Christ in absolute detail. Read 2 timothy 2:1-13 together.
In 2 Corinthians, Paul begins the letter with an encouragement to those living in trials because of their faith. Here after telling Timothy how everyone abandoned him, He doesn't say feel sorry for him, but be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. We know -
The Lord gets His best soldiers out of the highlands of affliction.
Charles Spurgeon
Until we actually wrestle with the devil, we often think much of ourselves. Soldiers, are trained for the fight. Lets pick apart together, the first few verses lets learn about our Sword.
Examine the exegetical guide. Here is the thing, we don’t need it but it can be real help to us in finding things that aren't there or might not be there. For instance. The NLT is a great translation, I really like it since its so easy to read. But when studying I always use a word for translation. one is a dynamic equivalence and word for word is formal equivalence. If you were to look at the NLT the first word of verse 1, chapter 2, is Timothy, but in the greek and NKJv it is You (su) then oun, therefore, for this reason. be strong endynamoo its passive, meaning you build up this grace. Grow in it be strong now always.
This strength is in grace. not power, not building up self, but trusting Jesus, depending on His grace. Grace is charis, rejoicing, gladness, joy but directed, not just experienced. There is such grace in jesus.
Ephesians 6:10 NKJV
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Its in His might that I trust, not my own.
Christ Jesus. Messiah, Anointed, Chosen. Jesus is the son of God, and his grace is without measure, never ending.
Lets do verse 2 together. You can use this exegetical guide or use BLB.
