Israelites about to enter into the promised land
Joshua 1:10–18 CSB
Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get provisions ready for yourselves, for within three days you will be crossing the Jordan to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you to inherit.’ ” Joshua said to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, “Remember what Moses the Lord’s servant commanded you when he said, ‘The Lord your God will give you rest, and he will give you this land.’ Your wives, dependents, and livestock may remain in the land Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But your best soldiers must cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers and help them until the Lord gives your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they too possess the land the Lord your God is giving them. You may then return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of what Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on the east side of the Jordan.” They answered Joshua, “Everything you have commanded us we will do, and everywhere you send us we will go. We will obey you, just as we obeyed Moses in everything. Certainly the Lord your God will be with you, as he was with Moses. Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words in all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous!”
#1 Step Up!
“It’s easy to mess up between stages of life. I know a lot of people who lift their foot from the gas, take a needless detour, or take their eyes off the road- and they don’t make it safely home. I’m not talking about driving but about the journey of life.”
Three days to rest & prepare
“Take a deep breath, be still, remember He is God, seek first His Kingdom, and get ready to step up to the moment.”
The actual way to step up? Trust and rest in Him.
The paradox of the Christian life
#2 Everything, Everywhere
Joshua - Yeshua (Hebrew) - Iesous (Greek) - Jesus (English)
Say to Jesus, “Everything You have commanded me I will do, and everywhere You send me I will go.”
“Our future isn’t a matter of our own autonomous ambition. It’s a matter of submission to the perfect will of God. There’s no point going forward if it’s down the wrong path. We aren’t on earth long, and all is wasted by a self-focused life. We must deny ourselves, take up our cross, follow Him, and say, ‘Lord, not my will but Yours be done- whatever You tell me, wherever You send me.’”
Hudson Taylor quote
Psalm 37:4 CSB
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.
Make HIM your heart’s delight. Then, “He will place within us the desires we most need in our hearts and which will bring us greatest joy.”
Give God all there is of you to have.
“All there is of God is available to the person who is available to all there is of God.”
