Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees, And looks to God alone; Laughs at impossibilities, And cries it shall be done.
Charles Wesley
The quote by Charles Wesley, "Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees, and looks to God alone; laughs at impossibilities, and cries it shall be done," beautifully captures the essence of what it means to trust in God and obey His call. When Jesus calls us to follow Him, we may face obstacles and challenges that seem insurmountable. But if we have faith in Him, we can see beyond these difficulties and believe that He will make a way for us. When we have faith like this, we can look to God alone for our strength and guidance. We don't have to rely on our own abilities or resources, but instead can trust that God will provide everything we need. This kind of faith allows us to laugh at impossibilities, knowing that nothing is too difficult for God. We can confidently say, "it shall be done," because we trust that God is in control and will fulfill His promises. As we consider Jesus' call to follow Him, let us remember the words of Charles Wesley and strive to have faith that sees the promises of God and looks to Him alone. May we laugh at impossibilities and trust that God will make a way for us. And may we obey Jesus' call to follow Him with immediate obedience, knowing that He has the power to transform our lives and make us into new creations. Consider this: facing a difficult situation such as a life-threatening illness, financial crisis, or any other seemingly insurmountable challenge. Despite the odds against us by maintaining an unwavering faith in God and trusting that He will provide a way out of their predicament.
In Matthew 9, we see Jesus calling people to follow him. Some responded with faith and followed him, while others did not. Jesus' call to follow him is not just an invitation to join his band of disciples, but it is a call to faith and trust in him.
In Genesis 12, we see God calling Abram to leave his country, his people, and his father's household to go to the land God will show him. Abram immediately obeyed God's call and went on a journey of faith. Similarly, when Jesus calls us to follow him, we must respond with faith and trust in him, just like Abram did.
In Psalm 33, we see that God's plans will be fulfilled without delay. When Jesus calls us to follow him, it is not a call to wait or delay. It is a call to action, to step out in faith and trust him completely.
In Matthew 9:18-26, we see Jesus demonstrating his power to heal and restore life. A ruler came to him, pleading for his daughter's healing, and a woman with a bleeding issue came to him, believing that just touching his cloak would heal her. Jesus healed them both, showing that he has the power to heal and restore all who come to him in faith.
In Romans 4, we see that faith in God's promises is necessary to receive his blessing. Abraham believed God's promise of a son even though he was old, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Similarly, when Jesus calls us to follow him, we must believe in his promises and trust that he will fulfill them.
In Matthew 9:9-13, we see Jesus calling Matthew, a tax collector, to follow him. Matthew left his old life behind and followed Jesus. Following Jesus involves transformation. When we believe in Jesus and obey him, we are transformed from our old sinful selves into new creations, empowered to overcome our sinful nature.
Jesus' call to follow him should be met with faith and trust in him. When Jesus calls us to follow him, it is not just an invitation to join his band of disciples, but it is a call to faith and trust in him. We must heed his call if we are to be saved. Let us respond with faith and trust in Jesus, and allow him to transform our lives.
When we look to God alone and rely not on our own strength or abilities to overcome our situations, we believe that nothing is impossible for God and that He is able to do the impossible. As a result, we have the confidence to face the challenges with a positive attitude and a sense of peace, knowing that God is in control and will bring us through difficulties.
Faith, mighty faith, the promise sees, And looks to God alone; Laughs at impossibilities, And cries it shall be done.
This quote encourages us to have faith in God, to trust in His promises, and to have the courage to face challenges with a positive attitude and a sense of peace. It reminds us that with faith, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve our goals, no matter how impossible they may seem.
As we consider Jesus' call to follow Him, let us strive to have faith that sees the promises of God and looks to Him alone. May we laugh at impossibilities and trust that God will make a way for us. And may we obey Jesus' call to follow Him with immediate obedience, knowing that He has the power to transform our lives and make us into new creations.
Dear God,
We come before you with grateful hearts, thanking you for your call to follow your son, Jesus Christ. As we look to Matthew 9, we see that Jesus' call to follow him is a call to faith, trust, and transformation. We ask that you help us to respond to this call with a heart full of faith and trust.
We pray that just as Abram responded immediately to your call in Genesis 12, we too will respond to Jesus' call to follow him without hesitation. We ask that you give us the strength to let go of our fears, doubts, and worries and trust in your plans, knowing that they will be fulfilled without delay, as emphasized in Psalm 33.
Help us to remember that when we follow Jesus, we are called to trust in him, as shown in Matthew 9:18-26. We ask that you give us the faith to believe in your promises, just as Abraham did in Romans 4:13-25, so that we can receive your blessings.
Finally, we ask that you give us the grace to undergo transformation, just as Matthew did when he left his old life behind to follow Jesus. May we believe in Jesus and obey him so that we can overcome our sinful nature and be transformed into his likeness.
In conclusion, we pray that you strengthen our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. May we hear his call and respond with hearts full of faith, mighty faith that laughs at impossibilities and cries out, "it shall be done." We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior. Amen.
