Col 2:6-7 “6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
In the beginning of Colossians 2 we are given a simple description of a life that is not being “beguiled by enticing words” and is walking in Christ. We are given two basic steps to guard ourselves from deceit after having received Christ.
Being taught so that our faith is established
Live abounding in thanksgiving
Being taught, discipled, trained, will help us be “built up” in Christ. It is absolutely necessary. Knowledge alone will not protect us in a world of deceit. This knowledge should produce in us thanksgiving. If the knowledge does not produce grateful hearts it is knowledge that is misunderstood, misapplied, and will be rendered ineffective from protecting us from the lies of this world. Let me share it as I would if it was trying to act this out for the teenagers of our church. Imagine our minds being our servants gathering up incredible riches and storing them in a room. Now picture a guard standing outside of that door. That guard is gratitude.
