Introduction: What Happens When You Hear the Preaching of the Word?

Big Idea 1: He who has ears to hear let him hear (v8)

Imagine you come to hear this young Rabi preach.
He says all this obvious stuff about farming in an agrarian culture. And then His big crescendo is “He t has ears to hear let him hear.”
But, it’s this last sentence that the parable is actually about. “He who has ears to hear let him hear”

Big Idea 2: What DID YOU SAY? I CAN’T HEAR YOU (v10)

Big Idea 3: This Parable is About People Who Regularly Hear the Word of God

The Seed is the Word of God (11)
Notice EVERYONE hears the word of God. (This is terrifying)
The soils are about the way in which the hearers go about hearing the word of God.
By road (The Devil takes it away)
Rocky soil, they hear but have no root and temptation drags them away
Thorns Checked out by the pleasures os life and bear no fruit
Good soil heard the word in a hones hear, hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.

Big Idea 4: Hearing the Word With an Honest Heart Means Putting it Into Practice (v21)

Here Jesus closes the loop on what He is teaching
What does it actually look like to receive the Word?
