How to be an approved workman

Can I tell you that every child of God is a worker for God! We all have a purpose! What is that purpose? While the answer is severalfold we can find one in the term “workman.” This is a descriptor that is given to christians!

2 Cor 6:1 “1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.”

Every child of God is a worker for God

As we turn to 2 Timothy we find a chapter that starts in sonship and ends in service.

- Written from Older Paul to younger Timothy

- some of his last advice ever

He is giving Timothy advice on how to be a good workman- We are going to hone in and focus on this idea of being a workman and how to be a good one.

Who we work for- (unto God)

In all that we do its for the Lord/

- Not people, family, stuff, money, likes, views

Eph 6:5-6 “5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;”

You can’t serve God and something else

How are we to work (diligently)

Study= zealously, hard working

Be earnest and eager to work hard for God

What is our work (rightly divide)

This is the center of Timothy’s work

Working hard to understand, apply, use, and share God’s word

not self help, or good advice but God’s word

How we fight 1 Tim 1:18

Why (approved & Ashamed)

Not that God will love you more or less. Or you’ll lose salvation .

Again only children are workers

Ashamed: It is embarrassing to poorly work then have that poor work examined

As we know this work will be examined by out Lord

Workmen I challenge you that we live and work diligently got our Lord. We learn to love his word. Lets be the best workmen!
