Intro

I read something recently

a singling out of this generation but it is probably true of every new generation as they become young adults

this is the group of people with the highest amount of stress and anxiety

maybe that’s more me than you but it will be you soon

how do we overcome that?

what does peace mean?

something we have looked at recently in the out of context series

it fits with these thoughts as well

we have a conflicting idea of what peace is with the rest of the world

Define Peace

Paul writing to the Philippians

surpassing understanding

eirenes- found when pursuing all the good and true things

when being thankful and rejoicing always

those are all well and good but is it easy to live that way and always be pursuing those things?

why not?

even in the midst of the worst things or in the best of times when it is easy to be forgetful, Paul has peace and comfort rather than anxiety and stress

Peace in Scripture

Psalm 46 -

David’s faith in God is such that even if the earth were giving way, he would be at peace

to be still- RPhH- to let go or release

God brings to an end all the chaos and suffering that happens here and now

God will undo the wrong done in this life by the choices of man

those things are out of our hands

we can be still, let go of trying to be in control of those things

not to say that we ought to be complacent and lacking compassion

but that the responsibility to end all evil or completely escape it is not ours

we can have peace and rest knowing that that is God’s work

Application

not the peacemakers lesson part two

though that is a good thought too

there will be so many things that you will have no control over

so many evil things that you will want to do away with and so many tough situations that you will want to find some control in but can’t

Be still

know that you are not in fact God

know that the one who is God has already planned redemption, and justice

that he will do what he said he would as he always has

that he is God and you don’t have to be to find peace
