Abraham is nearly one hundred- has been following God for a while now

maybe the restatement of this with emphasis means something

name goes from high father to father of many

the sign of the covenant, that we are giving up a part of our selves

Visit and Laughter

Present Godhead trio

Abraham laughs and makes mention of Ishmael

Ishmael is promised God’s blessing

Isaac promised next year

God visits in the form of a trio of men

once again promises that Sarah shall have a son in the next year

this time Sarah hears and laughs and God has now heard the doubt from both of them

Birth and Banishment

Hagar and Ishmael repeated

a year has passed with episodes we will return to

even in their old age, Abraham and Sarah have a son just as God promised

Sarah once again angry with what was her own doing

Abraham conflicted at his wife’s order because Ishmael is also his son

God promises to be with Hagar and to make a nation of Ishmael

the things to come shown long beforehand

God puts Abraham to the test in a story that could be its own forty minute lesson

all the stories of Isaac leading up to this one are nearly repetitions of things that have already happened

God spares man’s son because of his faith in God

God takes the place of man that deserves death
