Reading of the Text

Galatians 3:21–22 ESV
21 Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. 22 But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Is the law then contrary to the promises of God?...” - Paul has pointed out the contradictions present in the teachings of the Judaizers when pertaining to the purpose of the law in the life of Christians
- A recap of their core beliefs are that:
The new covenant is the renewal of the old covenant
Jesus renewed the covenant by his life, death, and resurrection
That renewal restored God’s people to faithfulness to the mosaic law
To have access to the messiah you had to essentially be Jewish
To become Jewish you had to accept the ceremonial works such as circumcision
And had to live under the yoke of the whole law (not just the moral law)
And we discussed Paul’s arguments throughout chapter 3; Paul argues:
That the one who “does them shall live by them” - that being those who follow the law as a means of salvation shall live by keeping it (Lev. 18:5)
Leviticus 18:5 ESV
5 You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.
Because humanity can not keep the law we all fall under a curse, that of which is death (Rom. 3:9-18 ; Deut. 27:26)
Romans 3:9–18 ESV
9 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” 13 “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” 14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” 15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 in their paths are ruin and misery, 17 and the way of peace they have not known.” 18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Deuteronomy 27:26 LEB
26 ‘Cursed be the one who does not keep the words of this law, to observe them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’ ”
God made a Covenant with Abraham and his offspring, Christ, prior to the giving of the law and God does not annual or add to Covenants after they have been ratified (
