1 John 1:5-10 “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
What is light? the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible
What is darkness? The absence of light. the partial or total absence of light:
Biblical light: Beyond the physical element, light in the Bible stands for spiritual illumination and truth. It encompasses all that is pure, good, and holy, as opposed to the darkness of evil. God’s Word is “a lamp for my feet and a light for my path” (Ps 119:105). It guides us in following his commands throughout our lives.
Biblical: wickedness or evil
Hell is referred to as the “outer darkness.” If God is light, and the absence of light is darkness, then hell is a place without God. Wanna see a true hell on earth, go to a place where God is forbidden. Here you will not find a literal hell, but you will see the beginnings of what hell would look like on earth.
This is not going to be long so I want you to listen closely to me. There is light in this world, and there is darkness. There is right, and there is wrong. There is good, and there is bad. Black and white. THERE IS NOT GRAY AREAS!!! What God calls wrong, is wrong. What God says is okay, is okay. It does not matter your opinion. It does not matter what your friends think, nor your teachers, and future professors. If it goes against God’s word then it is wrong.
If God says its up, then its up. If down, then it is down. No amount of disagreement on mans part will change what God said is wholly good and morally right. And do you know why God has the right to set what is right and wrong? He is perfect. He is light, and in Him there is no darkness. Someone who is flawed cannot make a fully just laws, but only those who are perfect. Which is why God sets the rules.
Now back to you. You must choose for yourself what you are to do. Joshua 24:15 “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”” Joshua faced things that you are facing now. People who were choosing to follow other things rather than following the Lord.
At least when Joshua faced the situations, there was a clear and blatant refusal to follow the Lord. Most of your friends that choose the world are not worshipping Molech, or Ra, or Dagon. Their rebellion is a little more subtle, but all the same it goes contrary to God.
You have to choose whether you are going to do well, or whether you are going to fail.
Watchman Nee once said "If you would test the character of anything, you only need to enquire whether that thing leads you to God or away from God." ~ Watchman Nee
Matthew 6:24 ““No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other...”
Do you love God? You may say “Colter, I do not hate God.” But I will ask you this. Do you keep His commands? God said those who love me keep my commands, do you love Him? Do you keep His word? Do you even read His word? Do you apply it in your day to day lives?
You cannot serve two masters. You cannot say that you are light when you clearly follow darkness. If you are not of the darkness then the light will clearly testify to that.
There is a right and a wrong. If you want to be on the right, then you have to know what is wrong and make a decision in your life to do what is right. No matter the cost. You may lose friends, but they should not have been in your life in the first place (not acting like they do anyways). You may lose popularity, but is it really worth having if it causes you to fall into darkness?
Be the light in this world. Do what is good, do what is right. Walk in the light.
