Cathodic Protection

Proverbs 27:17 NKJV
17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Who here has been to the statue of liberty?
Has anyone been inside of it?
Facts about the Statue of Liberty:
Oldest statue in the united states
Real name: Liberty enlightening the World
Given to us by the French
June 17, 1885
157’ tall
214 crates
350 pieces to assemble
Her Right foot is actually in mid stride which means she’s moving foreword
Commemorate the centennial independence of America(The french and Americans were allies during the revolutionary war)
Made of 250,000 lbs of steel and 62,000 lbs of copper, the pedestal is 54 million lbs of concrete
Together the statue and the pedestal measures 305’
IN 1982-1986 they went to work to repair the structural integrity of the statue:
They found that the angle iron and supports inside the statue were severely corroded
the very thing that was holding the statue in place was starting to disintegrate and lose it’s stability
NACE 3:
What happens when you put to dissimilar metals together, one will always sacrifice itself for the other
In Chemistry they have what is called a noble metal chart:
at the top would be Platinum and Gold (precious metals)
at the bottom you see like magnesium and zinc
Zinc strips on a boat
The more closely two metals are on the spectrum the slower the deterioration of the metal that takes place
The higher you go up on that spectrum the slower that process takes place over all
Restoration:
So here we have the beautiful statue of Liberty in all it’s glory
Slowly becoming unstable and on the brink of collapse without intervention
What did they do
Replaced the iron a less noble metal with stainless steal
Not only a more noble metal than stainless
But a more noble metal than copper
Why did they do this?
Without the structure being sound, the statue isn’t going last
We can fix cosmetic things, but if the structure is shaking the whole thing is in trouble
You’re the structure in the World around you!
Are you holding up the people around you or are you causing corrosion?
Proverbs 27:17 NKJV
17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
We’re here to sharpen each other but we have to make sure that we’re not being whittled down to nothing in the process
With ironing sharpening sparks fly!
We have to lead our families, our friends, our coworkers from an area of strength
How many have you ever have just been emotionally spent?
There’s sometimes I don’t have the emotional capacity to carry what God is asking me to carry
times in my life I don’t have the capacity to deal with things
Mentally or emotionally
I can get mad or lash out cause I don’t have the answer or I don’t have the mental capacity to deal with it at the moment
Notice I’m saying I a lot
When I don’t He Does
There’s two ways to protect against corrosion that I know of:
Galvanic protection: One we talked about and that’s a sacrificial anode, one that gives itself up for the other
Is what is called cathodic protection
Impressed current of electricity
The impressed current charges the metal with electricity which disrupts the corrosion process and slows it down
DC or outside source
We have to be connected to the power source:
1. We have to maintain and be grounded by the word of God
Psalm 119:105 NKJV
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
it’s our truest power source
His word is a light unto your feet and a light unto your path
Without it we’re unstable in everything, we have no structure
2. We have to keep charging ourselves through prayer
we tap into the power source through prayer
Jude 20 NKJV
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
If i feel drained emotionally or don’t have power for a situation, I pray in the spirit
If i’m stuck this is where I go
3. We’re planted
Psalm 92:13–15 NKJV
13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, 15 To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
We have to be here, connected
We need others around us to help us be grounded
I can’t afford to not be here
I can’t afford to skip church
The best thing you can do for marriage, your family, your community is to be structurally sound
I can’t lead my marriage if I’m running on fumes
I can’t lead my family if my wife and I aren’t coming from a place of strength
I can’t lead people if I’m not leading out of my marriage
Be structurally sound, be stainless!
You’re kids can’t build a foundation off you if you’re corrosive
