“Go with us”
Text: Exodus 33:12-16
Intro: Moses is talking to God here in this passage. He opens this conversation with a reminder of a prayer that they had already shared. When the subject of taking the Promised Land came up Moses was not as much concerned with the destination as he was the journey.
I’ll remind you of the promise of God to Abram that he would give the heritage of Abram the land of Canaan. Many generations removed the people of God that don’t really understand their own heritage. God is ready to now take His people to the land. It is time to prepare them and condition them for a new land, where they are free.
Ill. Have you ever got out on the road for a big trip and as you were leaving the house there was this nagging thought that your forgetting something. Tell of leaving your pants in OKC when you were heading for Tulsa. In fact I have those little pangs so much that when I am leaving a place I go through and then I send my wife in after me.
Trans:
I. This Goal was right
A. Where God was taking them was right it was exactly what they needed. And Moses needed it.
B. If God has a goal for us it is much better than where we are today that is for sure.
Finances
Homes
Parents
Marriage
Church
C. Whatever the area of your life when God has a plan then it crucial that you get to that Goal the Promised land.
D. God has a Promised land that is Christianity victorious. God wants you to be winning in this Christian life and that is the land promised.
II. The Assurance was There
A. Provision - He told Moses he knew Moses by name.
§ That is the same statement Christ gave us when he promised his children that “my sheep hear my voice and I know them.”
§ This was a promise of Provision. Christ told us that God knows when a sparrow falls and how much more will he meet your needs.
§ God was promising the provision that Moses needed. He was letting Moses know that whatever the trip required I will make up the cost.
B. Right standing – He told Moses that he had Grace in His sight.
§ There is nothing you must do to be right with me you are in good standing. This is a big one because they are on their way before the pagans of the World and they have an identity based on the one true God.
§ Sometimes it is great to know that I am not really of this world. I am not like this world. (16)
III. The Journey is still the Priority
A. Moses was given every needed element to get on down the road but there was one last thing that needed to be in place before he was ready to go anywhere.
B. It was like that little nagging thing that you just knew you were going to forget on your vacation.
C. That one thing was the Presence of God. This one thing was far more important than just the blessings and provision of God. It was even more important than forgiveness.
D. In fact in Moses mind the other two promises were only made reality if God was there.
E. You see having God with you assures the blessing, assures the standing, but it ensure the total involvement. I have traveled to the west part of Kansas where my Grandparents farm is. All my life I do not remember one time in the hundreds of times I have journied out there do I remember my Grandpa ever getting lost. He was raised there my Grandmother was raised there they farmed that country side, as children played on its hillsides. They know that country like it was apart of who they are. This last year I was heading out their in our little car with my whole family and no cell phone. And a little less than adequate direction of where I was going. I took one wrong turn and could have corrected it in a mile at the next turn. Only one problem I didn’t know that the road I was heading out on was dirt only and you had to go many inches down to find the rock. I would have found it if I had not started helplessly toward the ditch. Stuck it in the mud. Can I tell you that never would have happened if my Grandpa had been there. Why because when you have the right companion you prevent sidelining yourself. Self destruction is ebbed when you have the right leadership. When your companion is right you are held to a closer walk.
Young Christian let me remind you of the words of Jesus. He promised his disciples. “low I am with you all way even unto the end of the earth.
Matthew 28:20 KJV 1900
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
That same omnipresent God that could be with Moses in the promised land is with you as you forge out to face the world.
That same
Matthew 1:23 KJV 1900
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
John 14:16–17 KJV 1900
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV 1900
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Hebrews 13:5 KJV 1900
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Revelation 3:20 KJV 1900
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
