Missions / Evangelism
10/40 Window
10 degrees north / 40 degrees north of equator
69 Nations
More than 4.4 Billion people
90% of the people have never heard the Gospel message even once
85% are the poorest in the world
45 out of 50 of the most persecuted nations are found here.
Only 10% of global missionary forces are allocated here.
Only 5 cents out of every $100 spent on missions globally is directed toward here.
Annual income of all church members: 30.5 trillion
$545 Billion given to any Christian cause (1.8%) - also how much we spend on Christmas.
Out of that, only 31 Billion (.1) is given to missions
Acts 1:4–8 NIV
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Power for His mission
A promise of empowerment for mission
Often associated with healing miracles, signs and wonders.
Our testimony is backed by the Holy Spirit
Acts 14:3 “So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders.” - the message
Acts 3:16 “By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.” - the name
Witnesses
Isaiah 43:10-12 10 “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. 11 I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior. 12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God.”
This would be the “end- time” when God would equip his people with his Spirit to speak for him in order to bring justice to the earth.
The righteous would not be summoned to Jerusalem, rather they would scatter to win Gentiles.
Acts 8:4 “Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.”
Acts 11:19 “Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews.”
Jerusalem to the ends of the earth
Acts begins in Jerusalem and ends with Paul in Rome
The gospel crosses all barriers
Rome serves as an “ends of the earth” because the idea goes: if one can evangelize Rome, one can also evangelize the rest of the world.
Some will be called to the Nations
We are all called to our neighbors
God has providentially chosen who you neighbors are.
We can all give
We can all pray
His mission is a promise
