“Something Good Will Come Out Of This”
Psalms 4:1-8
That’s what I want to preach about something good will come out of this there are three big facts or life 1 God is good 2 God is all powerful 3 Terrible things happen to hold those three truths at the same time seems to be illogical it makes since if you exclude one of those three statements whichever one you would choose but to try to hold all three altogether seems to be illogical the bible has another word for it it’s called faith, faith in GOD if it is true faith it is always Ambidextrous it can receive blessing from God with one hand and receive trouble from God with the other hand and hold on to both with confidence that God is still good and God is still in charge, confidence in God enables you to live with assurance that something good can come out of the worst of circumstances that is the message of psalm 4 the inscription above verse one says that it is to the choir master with strings instruments a psalm of David this is the second psalm that is authored by David be we don’t the circumstances that moved David to write these words it is assumed psalm 4 shares the same historical background of psalm 3 if so David wrote these words will on the run from his son Absalom but we are not sure but that doesn’t hinder the message of the psalm David says here whatever my circumstances are I am confident that something good will come out of this the inscription also tells us that this psalm was to go to the choir master we are not sure of all of the details or functions of this choir master but we do know that he was the appointed worship leader in the corporate assembly and this psalm though it was personal for David was not meant merely as a private Testimony this was a psalm to be used in corporate worship the congregation together we to sing these words that speak of assurance that God can bring good out of bad here and we see a fresh the priority of corporate worship we come together for corporate worship so that our confidence in God might be strengthen William Wellington said it well that worship is simply about looking in the right direction and so many of us are overcome with worry, doubt, and fear because we spend too much time focusing on the wrong things God calls us to gather as his children to worship him so that in those times together we may stop looking around and look up and having beheld the Sovereignty of the living God we might leave these meetings with fresh confidence that God has everything under control it is when God is in his rightful place that you can look at the circumstances of life no matter what they may be and conclude something good will come out of this my favorite short stories are by G W targgat entitled the window it’s about to men who shared the same hospital room one had a bed position next to the window during their extended time together they talked about everything, the talked about their up bring they talked about their families they talked about their careers they talked about their sickness and ultimately their enviable deaths and a part of their daily conversation would be a special time when the nurses would come in and prop up the man by the window so that the fluid would could flow from his longs and as he would be prop up he would look out the window and describe to his roommate the beautiful sites that he saw outside the window he describe one day a father and son picnic outside describe another day of a parade passing by and all of the celebration that was associated with it he describe how lovers would be outside that window enjoying each other’s company and these would be encouragement to his roommate until one day alien thought came to his roommates mind why does he get to be the window and then it’s not long before these daily looks out the window began to make the other man angry who had become bitter because he didn’t have position to have such an outlook for himself one night in the middle of the night sickness over took the man by the window the man by the wall could easily pushed the call bell had the nurses rush in to save the day but instead his bitterness had set in as he listened to his roommate hacking, coughing , and struggle until it all ended in the death of silence when the authorities came in and discovered the body they removed him and when this man felt it was appropriate he asked can he be moved to bed next to the window they saw no harm in that and when he was finally by the window himself he prop himself up for the first time readying himself to get his first glimpse out the window when he looked out he was shocked by what he saw there was a blank brick wall staring right back at him when you look at life what do you see my brother and my sisters this psalm is meant to say if you have confidence in the living sovereign mighty God you can look at life and whatever it circumstances may be and conclude that I believe something good is coming out of this how do you get such and outlook Gatling I’m glad you asked first David says 1 pray for Gods help verse one says answer me when I call oh God of my righteous you have given me relief when I was in distress be gracious to me and hear my prayer it is significant that this psalm begins with words of prayer it reminds us that when things are going bad in our lives prayer should be your 1st response not your last resort when pain, injustice, hardship, difficulty, and burdens come into your life the first thing you ought to do is take it to god and pray for his help the song writer said it this way ask the savior to help you comfort strengthen and keep you he is willing to aide you Jesus will carry you through I’m talking to someone here today and things look bad may I ask you friends have you prayed about it text says the first thing you need to do is to pray for Gods help pray with boldness the opening sentence says answer me your translation may say hear me but it is more infactic he want here more than a hearing he wants an answer he wants an assurance that when he calls on the lord that god will answer him and in my bible there is an exclamation point at the end of this sentence with boldness he says God when I call you I don’t just want you sitting back I want you to answer me when I call you to ought to pray with boldness how can you go to God with such boldness listen to him he says answer me when I call o god of my righteousness this title for God is used only here in all of the bible it does not merely mean as some translation render it that God is righteous some translation say my righteous God and so he is but that is not what David is saying he is saying he is the God of my righteousness meaning whatever righteousness I have is not inherent its derived I am righteous because God has made me righteous on my own I’m weak and sinful and fickle and mean and wicked and ungodly but God has made me a new person he has given me a new position he has assign to me a new destiny and wherever I am I cannot take credit for it halliejah God is the God of my righteousness are y’all in here with me that’s how you pray with boldness when you know you got a personal relationship with the living God it’s my privilege as a minister to pray for you every opportunity I get you need prayer partners in your life who intercede for you with believing prayer but there is something’s you just got to go thought by yourself and you need to stop waiting on other people to carry you through it you got to have enough faith in god for yourself help me here somebody and say he my God too he ain’t just the pastors god and the deacons god he my god and I can call him when I need him pray with boldness and the pray with expectations in between the two prayer request in this verse there is a testimony he says god there are some things I need you to do but while I’m talking to you about what I need you to do let me also say something to you about what you already done you gave me relief when I was in distress that word distress means literally to be in a tight place have you ever been in a tight place hind in, trapped, cornered, surrounded, under pressure, that’s what distress is pressure no no no not stress pressure not I can’t find my keys , stress I’m running late stress they talking about me stress no no its pressure where I’m gonna lose my mind, I lose my cool, I’m lose my hope if God don’t step in and get me out of this listen to what he says I was in a tight place but you stepped in and gave me relief and the word relief means you enlarged me in my distress the pressure was trying to hole me down but you used the pressure to build me up did you know church that when they first produced golf balls in the origin of the game so I’m told that the balls were made with smooth covers it was only sometime later that they discovered those dents in the ball propelled the ball to go further and so it is in life a smooth life doesn’t go far it’s the dents and the bruises and the hurts and the pain and hardships that God uses to propel us to our destiny pray with expectations look back at what the lord has already done and with confidence in what he has already done pray with boldness for what you need him to do because whatever he has done is a resume for what he able to do he didn’t run out of blessings the last time he help you he didn’t run out out strength to last time he help you he still able so pray with boldness pray with expectations but still pray with humility be gracious your text may say merciful but its asking god to give something that you don’t deserve remember in prayer you don’t have the right to order God around because you don’t deserve any good thing from the lord we need to stop complaining that life is not fair you don’t want God to be fare cause if god was fare you wouldn’t be looking at me right now I don’t want lord for you to fair with me I need grace I need you to step in and do something for me that I know I don’t deserve and I can’t do it for myself be gracious and hear my prayer.and it’s not my my big lock on the door , it’s not bars on the windows, that make me safe do y’all hear me today it’s not a security guard at the front gate that makes me safe, it’s not the alarm system that I have on the wall that makes me safe, it’s ain’t what I got in the drawer next to the bed that makes me safe naw I lay down and I go to sleep, because I know who my God is Hallelujah and because I know who my God is, I can lay down and go to sleep singing to my soul I got a feeling everything going to be alright oh praise his name I’m finished church my heart is full right now I wish I could get out my mouth the way I feel it in my heart, but I just want to tell somebody something good got to come out of this, because God is real, because his grace is sufficient, because his love is everlasting, because his power is unlimited, because his wisdom is perfect, because his name is great, because his grace is sufficient, because his strength is perfected I got a feeling something good has got to come out of this I’ve seen the lightning flash you just got let me say it for myself today I’ve heard the thunder roll I felt sin breaker dashing trying to conquer my soul but I heard the voice of Jesus telling me fight on, preach on, pray on, serve on, lead on, he promised never to leave me and one Friday yall don’t hear one Friday the took my lord and you savior marched up a hill called Calvery, they put nails in his hand, put nails in his feet they hung him their they pieced in his side, and blood and water came streaming down, I said he died I said he died but right early Sunday morning he got up with all power in his hand say yeah say yeah
